LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Violet Louise Smoley passed away in her sleep the evening of August 19, 2021 at home. She was 91.
Born in Arkansas in 1929, her family moved to California in 1940.
Married to John Smoley in 1948, they had a son, John, in 1956, a daughter, Lisa, in 1959 (died two days after birth), and a son, Philip, in 1961.
In 1995 her husband of 46 years died and she never remarried. She was the last remaining of her five siblings.
Vi's primary role was wife and mother, though she held a variety of jobs now and then. She was a devoted Christian, and lived her life as such.
In her last years she suffered from dementia. But she never lost her humor and wit, she could see humor in almost everything; smiling to the end. She loved singing her favorite songs, lyrics of which she always could remember.
She was a classy lady that never lost her sense of Southern hospitality, charm, and had a high level of compassion and empathy. She was a woman of high character, integrity, honesty, and expected the same in others, and she inspired others to be better people. Wherever she went, people liked or loved her; she made people happier.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St. Lakeport.

Joshua Britt Lipscomb, aged 42, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021.
Joshua was born July 26, 1979 to Willard and Karen Lipscomb of Middletown, California.
As a boy Josh was always outside, testing the boundaries. He spent his early years riding his horse Lodi, going “full peed” down the driveway on his big wheel, and helping his dad around the shop.
When Josh got his first dirt bike, he fell in love with the sport so much, that was all he did. He spent countless hours on his bike out at Dead Horse, building jumps in the yard with the backhoe, and racing on the weekends.
Josh taught himself how to take his bike apart and put it back together, which he did many times. He was the type of person who could be shown something one time and master it.
After leaving California for Colorado when he was 20 years old, Joshua’s biggest and greatest accomplishment took place: the birth of his son Brodie Britt.
Seventeen years ago Josh welcomed his son into this world and from that minute on the love Josh felt for his best buddy was very special.
Josh spent every minute when he was off work, when Brodie was little, with a side kick following him, helping his dad with projects around the house. Brodie learned so much from his dad.
The minute Brodie could walk Josh couldn't wait to get him a dirt bike. He was 3 years old the first time his dad put him on one, he has never stopped riding.
Brodie and Josh spent many days at the track, practicing, racing and just hanging out. Those are some of his best memories with his dad. Josh didn't love anyone more than his son. Brodie will think of his dad every time he hops on his bike.
Josh became a crane operator and was very proud of his job. He traveled the country building everything from airports to wind farms.
His favorite build was when he set the last beam at the Olympic Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Joshua's most recent job was building the new high speed train “to nowhere” in California. Josh said on a daily basis, “I’m building America Goddamnit!”
In August of 2020 Josh married his wife Kalie, a partner who was excited to travel the country with him while he followed his dream and stood by him through thick and thin.
Joshua and Kalie also have a dog named Bocephus or BoBo for short. Bocephus would go to work with Joshua every day and they were never apart. Bocephus put a smile on Joshua’s face.
Josh was charismatic and could make friends everywhere he went. He loved to teach anyone that was interested about cranes; there have been several of his friends who followed in his footsteps.
Joshua was loved by many and leaves behind sad family and friends.
Josh is survived by his parents, Willard and Karen Lipscomb; his son, Brodie Lipscomb; his wife, Kalie Lipscomb; sister, Jenna Duckhorn, mother of his favorite nieces and nephews; his brothers, Willie and John Lipscomb; and many friends who miss him greatly.

Alden Vincent Miller
June 21, 1962 - Aug. 12, 2021
LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Alden always shared his sweets with the little people in his life.
No matter your age, he would call you by your childhood nickname.
He played mean air drums, especially when AC/DC was on the radio.
His big smile will be missed by many as well as his craziness.
Alden is survived by sisters, Eileen Brown, Coveda Miller and Jacqueline Miller; children, Justina Jackson, Siricuse and Jenna Miller, and Mauain Johnson; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Habematolel Community Center in Upper Lake on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 9 a.m.
A graveside service will be at Upper Lake Rancheria Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m.
