LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Born on Feb. 21, 1924, in Oakland, California, JoAnn (Franzman) Deacon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020.
She is held in loving memory by her children and their spouses, Cathy and Murray Pulse, Ron and Jenny Deacon, Don and Saro Deacon; her grandchildren and their spouses, Zoe and Larry Richardson, Ariana and Dammeon Wills, Jody and Missy Pulse, Jesse and Julie Pulse; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Kiana, Samaya, Jazmyn,Treysen, Kate and Colin; and nieces and nephews, Jay, Marjean (Johnson), Lita Clapper and John, Clyde and Ann (Munsey).
JoAnn grew up in Oakland and learned to play the piano and cello. She was in her own band that played at school dances and on the Cal Band where she met her future husband.
On May 28, 1942, she married Lawrence Sheldon Deacon and after his discharge from the Army they settled in San Lorenzo, California.
In the 1950s, JoAnn's father financed and the family built a summer home in the Terraces of Lakeport using adobe bricks made on her husband’s family farm in Scotts Valley. Many summers were spent here entertaining family and friends.
After her three children entered elementary school, she completed her credential in 1961 and started teaching first and second grade. JoAnn retired from teaching and moved to Lake County but continued to be active in education, volunteering in elementary classrooms (including her daughter’s class) and with the literacy program.
She was also active in the retired teacher’s association whereas she received the state’s prestigious Ruth Q. de Prida Award.
As an avid walker, she participated along with her daughter in 5K walking events and won many first place ribbons for her age class!
JoAnn and her husband enjoyed travels to distant parts of the world, including China, Egypt, European countries, Africa and more.
She saw many changes in her lifetime and adapted with humor, strength and grace.
JoAnn will be lovingly remembered by many family, friends and all the fine folks at Studebaker’s coffee house where she could be found “holding court” weekday mornings!

Charles M. Crofoot
Sept. 7, 1939 – Oct. 18, 2020
MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Charles M. Crofoot, 81, passed away on Oct. 18, 2020, at home.
Charles was born Sept. 7, 1939, in San Diego, California, to Charles and Mildred Crofoot. He grew up in San Diego and Rodeo, moving to Cobb in his junior year of high school.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and family gatherings, and was known for his sense of humor.
He worked for Kelseyville Lumber and Foremost Dairy prior to owning and operating Crofoot’s Chevron & Tow Service, retiring in 2001.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, J’net; daughters, Donna Crofoot and Penny McIntosh (husband Robert); grandsons, Charles Matteo (Shayla), Joshua McIntosh, Jonathon Seda (Kimberly) and Robbie McIntosh (Katelyn); and great-granddaughter, Emma Charlie Seda.
His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread in Crofoot Gulch. No services are planned.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A. L. Reynolds, Jr., 79, of Lakeport passed away suddenly on Nov. 1, 2020.
Al was born in Gallatin, Missouri, on Dec. 21, 1940, to Alva Lee Reynolds Sr. and Virginia Lee (Reynolds) Eastwood.
Al moved to Lakeport where he started the first grade, graduating from Willows High School.
After graduation, Al enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving from 1959 to 1962 at Camp Pendleton. During this time he was deployed to the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was proud to be a United States Marine.
In 1961 he married his best friend and love of his life, Judie (Zuur) Reynolds.
Al and Judie had a wonderful marriage of 59 years and were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys. They lived most of their early marriage in Santa Rosa, raising their children where Al worked as a parts runner for Bishop-Hansel Ford before becoming a parts manager. Al worked for several Ford agencies retiring his career at Ukiah Ford.
In 1982 Al wanted to move back to Lakeport where he grew up. Al opened the Bicycle Rack; he and Judie together were co-founders of the first BMX race track in Lakeport.
Upon retirement he enjoyed watching his boys play sports, becoming a papa, collecting Roy Rogers memorabilia, volunteering at the senior center, delivering flowers for Flowers by Jackie, ushering at St. Mary's church and volunteering at the California Highway Patrol office in Lake County.
Al was a very active and youthful guy. He enjoyed many things: camping, fishing, dirt bike riding, 1970s Oakland A's games, driving race cars at the Lakeport Speedway, walking his dog Bodie, and restoring many old cars over his lifetime. Al played an integral role in bringing CYO basketball to St. Rose school.
What made Al the happiest was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alva Sr. and Virginia; his son, Kyle Reynolds; and sister, Rita Collins.
Al is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judie Reynolds; his daughters, Kristin Reynolds and Kelly (Robert) Schmidt; son, Kory (Julie) Reynolds; brothers, Monte Reynolds, Gary Eastwood and Jerry Eastwood; sisters, Verna Petershon; nine grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Kari, Meghan, Jason, Hillary, Katie, Kelcie and Kortnie; nine great-grandchildren; aunt, Shirley Ray; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; and dear friends.
Family prefers donations in his memory be made to the Kyle Reynolds Basketball Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1312 Lakeport, CA 95453.
