Raw food vegan class focuses on desserts this Sunday

FINLEY – Do you want to lose weight, eat more, feel better, increase your energy and still eat fabulous desserts every day?


Join raw food chefs Christina Basor and Sue Amberson for a raw foods vegan class from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Finley Grange, 1510 Big Valley Road.


Basor and Amberson's topic for the class will be “divine desserts.”


They'll discuss raw cashew cheesecake, key lime pie, rawberry pie, chocolate covered strawberries, haystacks and divine whipped cream topping.


The class will include recipes and dessert tastings.


The cost is $40 per person; children under 12 may attend for $15.

North Lake Garden Club meets Tuesday

LUCERNE – The North Lake Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23.


The group will meet at 7 p.m. at 5870 E. Highway 20 in Lucerne. Refreshments will begin at 6:30 p.m.


The guest speaker will be Marissa Ponder, University of California Berkeley, Division of Insect Biology, whose topic will be "Native California Bee's Looking for Urban Real Estate."


Members, guests and all interested parties are welcome.

LAKEPORT – County Superintendent of Schools candidate Dr. Judy Luchsinger will host a potluck gathering at the Bell Alamo Center, 572 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport, on Thursday, February 25 at 6 p.m.


Luchsinger will share her thoughts on public schools in Lake County and what her goals and vision are for the future of public education and answer questions for those in attendance.


Music will be provided by Irma Lopez.

Republicans plan Lincoln Day lunch

LAKEPORT – The Lake County Republican Party will hold a Lincoln Day spaghetti lunch on Saturday, Feb. 27.


The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds' Little Theater, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.


The Republican of the Year Award also will be announced at the gathering.


The guest speaker will be US Senate District 2 candidate Chuck DeVore, who is running against Sen. Barbara Boxer.


The lunch includes spaghetti, salad, bread, a beverage and dessert. The cost is $20 for adults, and $8 for children under age 10.
