Eastlake Landfill, Public Services office to be closed Nov. 10

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Eastlake Landfill will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 11, and the Public Services Office will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day.

The Eastlake Landfill and the Public Services office will reopen on Monday, Nov. 13.

Regular operating hours at the landfill are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Public Services Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free hunter safety course offered in December

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — A one and a half day hunter safety course will be offered to the first 12 applicants on Dec. 2 and 3 at the Highland Springs Range House, located at 3800 East Highland Springs Road.

The course will cover gun safety, principles of conservation and hunter ethics.

Students will have an opportunity to meet a game warden and experienced instructors, and will get hands-on experience with safe hunting equipment.

Successful completion of the class and exam will qualify you to obtain a hunting license.

Prior to the class all students will be required to read the “Guide to Hunting Responsibility and Safety” for two hours of class credit.

All prospective students must register with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website for this class.

Once you have registered you should immediately contact Robert Bridges at 707-263-5187 to obtain a copy of the class material.

Class hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Students should bring a lunch and something to drink as there is no potable water at the range.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. — As Veterans Day approaches, the Kelseyville community is gearing up for a morning filled with patriotism, delectable pancakes and unwavering support for our dedicated veterans.

Kelseyville Girl Scout Troop 10145 proudly presents its second annual Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast at the Saw Shop Public House, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10, from 8 to 11 a.m.

The cost is $10 per person for homemade pancakes, tasty eggs and savory thick slabs of bacon, along with orange juice and coffee.

Mark your calendars because this event is more than just a delightful breakfast; it's an opportunity for our community to come together and pay tribute to our local heroes.

The dedicated members of Kelseyville Girl Scout Troop 10145, renowned for their commitment to community service, will act as both hosts and servers for this special occasion. With beaming smiles, they'll be busy flipping pancakes and serving syrup to ensure an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

But that's not all. Your participation in this delicious breakfast will also create a profound impact. All proceeds from the event will be dedicated to supporting Wreaths Across America, a cherished organization that honors veterans resting at the Kelseyville Cemetery.

100+ Women Strong of Lake County present funding award to Hilltop Recovery Services

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. — Hilltop Recovery Services, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing recovery treatment services for men and women throughout Lake
County, received a $8,200 check from 100+ Women Strong of Lake County.

The check was presented at the 100+ Women Strong meeting held at Brassfield Winery located in High Valley in the town of Clearlake Oaks.

Lori Carter-Runyon spoke about how the funds will be used at Hilltop Recovery Services.

The money will help their women patients purchase clothing essential for job interviewing along with other basic necessities to aid them in getting back on their feet.

The 100+ Women Strong group is dedicated to supporting all nonprofit organizations throughout Lake County.

If you are interested in joining this amazing, giving group of special women or are a member and wish to nominate a non-profit organization, visit the website to sign up.

The group’s next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at Boatique Winery. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The deadline to sign up to become a member to vote at the November meeting is Nov. 4.
