KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The 2015 commencement ceremony for Kelseyville High School's class of 2015 on Friday, June 12, will include a fireworks display at the end of the celebration.

The display will take place on or about 9:20 p.m. at the Kelseyville High School Football Stadium.

This activity has been a tradition since 2000. The actual display will take place over a five-minute period but residents are advised to take the necessary precautions with pets that might be sensitive to the noise.

Kelseyville High School has worked with local law enforcement and fire agencies and has taken the necessary steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.

This event has been paid for through the fundraising efforts of the class of 2015.

The school thanks the community for its continued support of Kelseyville High School, its staff and students.

UPDATE: This vigil has been rescheduled. Due to graduations Franny Krueger family has asked to move the candlelight vigil back a week to Wednesday June 3, 2015. The gathering will take place at Library Park at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday June 3, 2015.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The friends of Francesca Schetter – also known as Franny Krueger – invite the community to join them for a candlelight vigil to remember and celebrate her life at 7 p.m. Wednesday June 3, in Lakeport's Library Park.

Schetter died late last week of injuries she suffered in a crash near Lakeport.

Candles will be provided or people may bring their own.

People who have stories or memories of Schetter are encouraged to come and share them with her friends and family.

The group also hopes to spread the word about the dangers of drinking and driving, which the California Highway Patrol said caused the Friday crash that took her life.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Boy Scout Troop 39 will hold a spaghetti and meatball dinner fundraiser on Saturday, June 6.

The dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mormon Church on 16th Street in Lakeport.

The cost is $5 per person or $20 for a family.

Along with dinner there will be a cake and goodie auction.

Proceeds will cover the cost of Scout camp in July.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Clear Lake State Park Interpretive Association is hosting an American Indian technology demonstration and discussion on Saturday, May 30.

The presentation will take place at 1 p.m. at the Clear Lake State Park Visitor Center.  

United States Forest Service archaeologists Barbara White and Curtis Fair from the Mendocino National Forest will be discussing and demonstrating stone tool manufacturing, commonly referred to as flint knapping, as well as bead making.

Additionally, the park visitor center will be open for the weekend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with games as well as drawings for gift shop items.

Clear Lake State Park is located at 5300 Soda Bay Road, Kelseyville.

Entry into the park is free for those attending the demonstration.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Soroptimist International of Clear Lake will hold its annual yard sale on Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It will be in the parking lot of Coldwell Banker Realty, 14855 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

Soroptimist International of Clear Lake is a nonprofit that raises money to help women and girls in Lake County and internationally. 

This year the club has supported The Nest in Lakeport, held a prom event, and given more than $4,000 to Live Your Dream recipients and various organizations. 

The club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at noon at Howard's Grotto in Clearlake.

People Services Inc., the local nonprofit serving people with developmental/intellectual disabilities, is gearing up for its annual fundraiser and tickets are now available.

For only $7 per ticket or four for $25 you can have a wonderful meal, listen all afternoon to the LC Diamonds and stroll through the silent auction bidding on an array of wonderful donations from our local businesses.

People Services has been providing services and supports for people with developmental disabilities for more than 40 years.

Starting with a small day program with only 12 students in 1974, the idea of helping people with learning disabilities become more self-sufficient has become a major force for change in Lake County. 

Now boasting 14 different programs, People Services participants have a wide range of services and supports that did not exist years ago. These include day programs in Lakeport and Clearlake, supported work and supported living, respite, transportation and training for groups and individuals. 

People Services also now has thrift stores in Lakeport and Clearlake. The stores are maintained by paid client workers each day.  

People Services has created opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to explore and enjoy the world around them. 

There are vacation packages that provide support to major events like going to a Giants game at AT&T Park or enjoying a quiet weekend on beaches of Fort Bragg or the Village of Mendocino.

Even better, many of the services offered by People Services include door-to-door transportation so participants can safely go to and from the events and services that are most important to them.

From its humble beginnings of two volunteer staff and 12 clients, People Services now employs more than 90 staff and more than 200 participants; of those 200, 70 have paying jobs. 

As one of Lake County’s leading nonprofit organizations, People Services relies heavily on local community support to fulfill its mission.
