CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Steam will make a triumphant return to California’s Clear Lake the weekend of Oct. 25 and 26 as the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce celebrates “Spirits on the Loch: A Lake County Time Adventure.”

This affordable, interactive, educational family event will feature an area for children, food, adult beverages and a multitude of activities and exhibits while a variety of bands fill the air with song.

The Eve Regale Masquerade Ball Dinner will be hosted Saturday night and on Sunday a fleet of miniature steamboats will race for the flag in the Spirits Regatta.

There also will be costume contests so participants can celebrate the imaginary realm of steampunk where time travelers have come to the future and recreated present-day technologies through Victorian era methods including steam power.

Entertainment will be offered throughout the event, including the original songs and sounds of Fred & Melissa featuring John Z as lead guitarist, plus many more.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – “T. Rex Planet” will bring its life-size animatronic dinosaur display and dinosaur-related activities to the Lake County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12.

The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds, 401 Martin St. in Lakeport.

There will be a range of fun and engaging activities designed to appeal to and engage all members of the family.

This event simulates what it would be like to experience the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods firsthand.

“Tracey” – a young T-Rex – greets guests and can be found walking and playing around the exhibit.

The main exhibit features life-size, ultra-realistic animatronic dinosaurs – more than 50 life-size dinosaurs in all.

Visitors can interact with these creatures, learn about them and even ride a few.

T. Rex Planet features realistic scenes, enormous dinosaurs, cute baby dinosaurs, a dinosaur band and lots of fun activities for children of all ages.

There’s a huge fossil dig where young paleontologists can dig up ancient bones, a “Dino Bounce” area with a dinosaur-theme inflatable bounce houses and much more.

General admission for adults and children age 1 and older is $15 per person. The ticket price includes a tour of the dino exhibit, the chance to walk with dinosaur pet Tracey, unlimited access to the basketball sports game and dinosaur band, plus access to the dinosaur fossils displays.

VIP admission tickets for children (ages 1-12) is $28 per child and it includes everything from the general admission ticket plus a free gift, unlimited dino scooter rides, unlimited inflatable jump house and sports games, dinosaur rides and fossil digs, and a free T-Rex Planet helium balloon.

Children under age 1 get in for free.

There is a $3 discount on up to five tickets with a military ID.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Chiefs youth football league will host a pancake breakfast with the Kelseyville Lions Club on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The breakfast will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Lions Club building, 4335 Sylar Lane in Kelseyville.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown Area Town Hall (MATH) group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9.

The meeting will take place in the activity room at the Middletown Community Center, 21256 Washington St.

Lake County Supervisor Rob Brown will speak against marijuana measures O and P and Kimberly Haynie will discuss the lake sales tax Measure S.

Also on the agenda will be discussion of SB 4, which relates to well stimulation; landscaping the front of the county building; a chili cookoff; traffic calming measures for Santa Clara Street; and the Nov. 13 meeting agenda.

MATH – established by resolution of the Lake County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 12, 2006 – is a municipal advisory council serving the residents of Anderson Springs, Cobb, Coyote Valley (including Hidden Valley Lake), Long Valley and Middletown.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lucerne Alpine Senior Center will host its Western Band Potluck on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The third Wednesday every month marks this regular fundraiser and music event.

The High Notes band is featured and will get your toe tapping.

This potluck fundraiser has a $12 admission. Bring something wonderful to share. 

This is a chance to hear one of Lake County’s most experienced talent. The High Notes are some of the best. Come hear their monthly performance and dance a bit.

All proceeds from the meal benefit the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, a not-for-profit that serves north shore senior populations with on site lunches, Meals on Wheels and advocacy.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Service Director Caroline Chavez announced that the Eastlake Landfill and the Public Services office will be closed Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday.

The facilities will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Normal operating hours at the landfill are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

The Public Services office is normally open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
