NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20
            
– Pavement repairs on Route 29 near the junction of Routes 20/29 will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– PG&E has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work near Fourth Street and near Oak Grove Avenue beginning Thursday, July 31. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 29

– AT&T of Fort Bragg has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility work from Bradford Road to Hilderbrand Road through Friday, July 25. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from the Lucerne Undercrossing to the junction of Route 20/29 will continue. Work hours are 4 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
MENDOCINO COUNTY
 
Highway 1

– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations from Collins Viaduct to 1.1 miles south of Elk Creek will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Ocean View Drive to Road 8068 on Tuesday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 30. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Iverson Road to Road 8063 beginning Thursday, July 31. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Guardrail installation and paving along the Navarro Grade will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Bridge repairs at the Blue Slide Gulch Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 20

– Culvert rehabilitation from near Two Rock Lookout to just east of the railroad crossing will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Northern Aggregates Inc. of Willits has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit to add turn lanes just south of Black Bart Drive through Friday, July 25. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance near Shimmins Ridge Road on Monday, July 28. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Casteel Lane to Big Trails Drive on Tuesday, July 29. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A moving lane closure will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Big Trails Drive to the junction of Routes 101/162 beginning Wednesday, July 30. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
Highway 128

– Guardrail repairs at the junction of Routes 1/128 will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations from Philo Greenwood Road to the Sonoma County line will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 175
 
– Bridge rehabilitation at the Russian River Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 13, has been canceled.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Lakeport City Hall. An agenda will be distributed in advance.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The famous trio of NASA Space Probes Cassini, Curiosity and Kepler continue to provide exciting new information about the solar system.

Taylor Observatory's “Window to the Universe” on Saturday, July 26, will feature Steve Kane discussing new information from NASA's Curiosity, Kepler and Cassini missions.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. at the observatory, 5725 Oak Hills Lane, Kelseyville.

Kane has a lifelong interest in astronomy and all things scientific.  

His lectures have been popular summer events at the Taylor and the observatory is pleased to have him return for a series of three summer lectures.

Window to the Universe Public Events are sponsored by The Friends of Taylor Observatory.

Events include a presentation, a planetarium show and astronomical viewing.

Ticket prices are $5 per adult and $3 per child under 12 years.

LAKEPORT – The Lakeport Library summer teen program donated a pickup truck load of items to Lake County Animal Care and Control this week.

The teens have set up a donation can in the library to collect clean bedding materials, newspapers, food bowls, carriers, unopened pet food and other items for the animals in the shelter.

Donations are being accepted at the library through July.

Lakeport Library, located at 1425 N. High St., is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, noon to 8 p.m. The phone number is 707-263-8817.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Tune in to KZYX&Z’s “Women's Voices” program at 7 p.m. Monday, July 28, when host Blake More will be talking with with women's health activist Becky Fein.

Fein is founder of The Powerful Voices Project, an empowerment based project working to enhance the conversation around sexual assault and its survivors.

They will be talking about cultural empowerment as a paradigm shifter and means to prevent future violence.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Chi Council for the Clear Lake Hitch will meet this week to discuss the hitch's potential listing.

The meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Lake County Agriculture Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport.

The main subject of discussion will be the state Fish and Game Commission's Aug. 6 meeting in San Diego, when the commission is expected to consider staff recommendations to list the hitch under the California Endangered Species Act.
