MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The South Lake County Fire Protection District is planning a spring open house on Saturday, April 5.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middletown Fire Station, 21095 Highway 175.

One hundred percent of all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Societies Relay for Life, to be held at Middletown High School.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Hospice Services of Lake County will sponsor an instructional workshop on planning before a medical crisis strikes on Tuesday, March 25.

The workshop will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the community room at Umpqua Bank, 805 11th St., Lakeport.

The workshop will cover a list of choices an individual should consider before a medical crisis occurs and provide a legal form for making those choices known to the medical community.

Estate planning attorney Debra Blum will explain the purpose and the need for the legal form known as an Advanced Health Care Directive.

Director of Medical Affairs at Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Dr. Diane Pege, will talk about what happens in the emergency room in a medical crisis and explain the purpose and use of a physician orders for life-sustaining treatment.

Discussion will include how to communicate with your doctor about medical treatment options.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Sons of Norway Vikings of Lake Lodge No. 6-166 will hold its next heritage and culture event on Sunday, March 9.

The group will meet beginning at 1 p.m. at the Galilee Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 8860 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville.

The March event will include a corned beef and cabbage dinner cooked by Kirby Aasen and guest speaker Carl Ingvoldstad will discuss the Vikings in Ireland.

The afternoon events include fellowship, interesting programs, a quick Norwegian language lesson and, occasionally, some dancing.

Cost of the meal will be $5 per person.

NICE, Calif. – The Featherbed Railroad is having a western-themed mystery dinner on Saturday, March 8.

The event includes live music by Michael Barrish, a chuckwagon buffet, Western costume contest with prizes and an interactive mystery scavenger hunt.

A limited number of reservations will be available for this very special event and it promises to be a fun afternoon and evening of intrigue and twists.

LUCERNE, Calif. – A caregiver support group for families dealing with memory loss or other cognitive impairments will meet on Thursday, March 6.

The group meets at the First Lutheran Church, 3863 Country Club Drive across from the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Social worker Jenny Johnson is the facilitator.

The group is sponsored by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center (1-800-834-1636) and the Social Day Programs in Lake County.

Respite is provided for no charge.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Club will meet Saturday, March 15.

The meeting will take place beginning at 11 a.m. in the Russell Rustici Park Club House at Lower Lake Community Park, 16375 Second St.

Guest speakers will include Jeff Smith, who will discuss why he's running for another term on the Lake County Board of Supervisors, representing District 2.

Herb Gura, who is running to succeed District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing, also will speak about what happens after Rushing's term is over, and “moving Lake County forward rather than backward.”
