LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Soper-Reese Community Theatre has lined up a great group of films of all genres for its 2014 Classic Movie Series.

The Classic Movie Series runs on the second Tuesday of every month.

Featured in 2014 will be the following classics:

• Jan. 14: “Casablanca.”
• Feb. 11: “The Love Bug.”
• March 11: “Charade.”
• April 8: “Singin' In The Rain.”
• May 13: “The Birds.”
• June 10: “The Maltese Falcon.”
• July 8: “It Happened One Night.”
• Aug. 12: “Dr. No.”
• Sept. 9: “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
• Oct. 14: “The Man Who Knew Too Much.”
• Nov. 11: “Mr. Roberts.”
• Dec. 9: “The Manchurian Candidate.”

For the matinee showings, doors open at 12:30 p.m., with the shows starting at 1 p.m.

For the evening showings, doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the films starting at 6 p.m.

Donations are gratefully accepted.

Popcorn, candy, soda, water and coffee will be available for purchase.

The Soper-Reese Community Theatre, located at 275 St. Main St. in Lakeport, is a restored, historic, performing arts venue established in 1949 and seating 300 patrons.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Church Women United is having its first meeting of 2014 on Friday, Jan. 3.

The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Lower Lake Community United Methodist Church, 16255 Second St., Lower Lake.

Join them for a potluck and fellowship, and support the Natalie Mitchell Shoes for Kids project.

The Lower Lake Methodist ladies will supply the main dish and those attending supply salad and dessert dishes.

Since this is the first meeting of the year they will be installing officers for 2014, setting the dates and programs for the three main celebration meetings of the year.

Those churches that are members are asked to bring their $25 donation for the year. This helps with the postage or office-related expenses, so the rest of the monies collected can go to their service project, which is the shoe fund.

Past and new members are welcome.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Free greenwaste dropoff services for Clearlake residents cleaning up after a late November windstorm will continue to be available through Jan. 15.

The storm, which occurred Nov. 21-22, caused significant damage throughout the city and resulted in the declaration of a local emergency.

Property owners throughout the city experienced tremendous amounts of greenwaste and debris in their yards due to fallen trees.

The city is making available to city of Clearlake residents a designated area at the city’s corporation yard to drop off green waste only. There will be no charge for this service.

Only tree and brush debris will be accepted and only in the designated area. Dumping of garbage, tires, scrap metal, hazardous materials or other waste will result in the city having to discontinue the service.

The city reminds property owners who plan to hire tree removal or cleanup service providers to protect themselves by making sure that any contractor hired is licensed and bonded and possesses a city business license.

The corporation yard is located on Airport Road off of Old Highway 53.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Green Knights will hold their next meeting on Thursday, Dec. 26.

The group will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Round Table Pizza on 11th Street in Lakeport.

The Green Knights encourages local action to improve life in the community. The actions of individuals will be rewarded and recognized, it only takes one person to make a difference.

The meeting is open to the public at no cost. There will be no host food and drinks.

Store customers have called the display “spectacular.”
