KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Quick – the clock’s running for the 2013 Ely Stage Stop Quick Draw.

This is your chance to win a fabulous wood picnic table and bench set for your outdoor entertaining needs.

Beyond-sturdy 2-inch-thick solid wood was used so it will last a very long time.

The set was made right here in Lake County by the Konocti Conservation Camp CC No. 27.

Known for their fire suppression support and community service projects, the camp has donated this great piece for a raffle to raise funds for a set of tables that will greatly enhance Ely’s event space for future festivities.

The 2013 Quick Draw ticket sales started July 6. The winning ticket will be drawn at the Nov. 10 Lake County Historical Society Thanksgiving Dinner. So buy now and buy often.

Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Purchase tickets from our docents during museum hours, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday or from any of our volunteers anywhere/anytime you may run into them. Watch for them at the Kelseyville Pear Festival.

Operated by the Lake County Historical Society, the Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum is located at 9921 Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville. Stop by and check out the table.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The county's 4-H program is putting out the call for all past All Stars.

The 4-H All Star is a rare and special type of individual.

What is an All Star? They are the cream of the 4-H youth program selected on the basis of their leadership, character, and 4-H involvement.

The All Star designation represents the highest achievement at the county level, similar to scouting’s Eagle Scout.

Lake County has a long line of eminent All Stars starting in 1937, many who still live in this area and continue to practice the 4-H motto “To Make the Best Better.”

Local “stars” include Myron Holdenreid (1956), Madelene Luezinger Lyons (1949), Jo Anne Eustis Herring ( 1957), and Kevin Smith (1982), to name a few.

A more complete list is available at the California 4-H Centennial Celebration to be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

All Stars, near and far, as well as alumni no matter what club or state of origin, are invited to share in our centennial event.

There will also be a group All Star photo and they would love for any and all past All Stars to join in.

If you have history or memorabilia to share, please contact the 4-H office at 707-263-6838.

4-H Youth Development is a program of the University of California Cooperative Extension.
