LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Meals On Wheels Thrift Store is holding a 50-percent off sale of its entire inventory as a fundraiser for Operation Tango Mike on Friday, July 27.

The goal the Lakeport Senior Activity Center and its thrift store is to raise enough money to pay for the shipping of 100 boxes through Operation Tango Mike, so a portion of the day’s sales will be donated.

The store and the senior community recognize the great effort and benefit to local soldiers and their families and want to support in every way they can.

Donations have been coming in during the month of July at the senior center and the thrift store.

Everyone is invited to shop the store from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. The store is open during the concerts at the park with extended hours.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The value and convenience of eating fresh local and regional food is easier now that  Lake Co-op (Lake County Community Co-op) expanded options to include weekly subscriptions.

A subscription is a weekly order that is placed once and continues automatically until put on hold by the customer.

It is a new feature available through Lake Co-op’s new online ordering system at www.lake.coop .
 
Lake County residents can enjoy weekly subscriptions delivered to one of ten drop points throughout the county or to their home or office.

“We’re making access to local food one of our top priorities,” noted Co-op Chair Janine Smith-Citron, “and subscription sales make that access so much more convenient for our customers.”
 
Lake Co-op’s recently launched online ordering system includes subscriptions to items such as their popular all-organic weekly fruit and veggie box (sourced local first, regional second and last by an organic distributor), bakery goods, and individual items such as their new mushroom of the week, herb of the week, and potato of the week; and bananas (fair-trade when available).

Subscriptions can be supplemented with other items as the customer desires by placing an order during the open order cycle.
 
Shopping on the website begins Sundays, 12:01 a.m. and continues through Tuesday, 12:30 p.m., which gives local producers ample time to harvest for co-op customers to pick up or receive deliveries on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in most areas.
 
Drop points are in most communities around Lake County and are housed in existing businesses to strengthen the local business community.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Central Committee will meet on Thursday, Aug. 2.

The monthly meeting will take place beginning at 7 p.m. in Lakeport at the Lake County Tax Service Office, 1210 S. Main St.

Supervisor Anthony Farrington will speak to the group about the about the fall tax measure on the county ballot.

The agenda will contain reports from the elections, finance, issues and elections committees. Voter registration and updates on the Aug. 5 Harvest Festival and the Sept. 22 annual Legislator's Barbecue.

Also on the agenda will be reports from representatives for Congressman Mike Thompson, Assemblyman Wes Chesbro and Sen. Noreen Evans, as well as reports from Stonewall Democratic Club Chair Mark Wickhamshire and representative from the Lake County Democratic Club, Paula Mune.

Additionally, there will be updates on the Campaigns of Congress Member John Garamendi, and Assembly Member Mariko Yamada.

 Meetings are open to the public and committee membership is open to all registered Democrats.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Senior Activity Center will be hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Rob Roy Golf Club.

All proceeds will go to the Meals on Wheels program.

The cost is $59 per person for nine holes of golf with cart and dinner provided.

The registration deadline is Aug. 20.

NICE, Calif. – The Sons of Italy Nice will be having a Western-style barbecue dinner and dance, on Saturday, July 28, in their Lake County Lodge Hall located at 2817 E. Highway 20 in Nice.

The meal will include ribs, corn on the cob, beans, cole slaw, bread and dessert plus coffee or tea.  

The bar is open for socializing at 5 p.m., dinner starts at 6 p.m., then dancing to The High Notes Band starts after the meal.

The cost will be $15 for everything.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, July 25.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

Agenda items include a public hearing and consideration of a use permit to allow outdoor storage display and sales display of boats, boat trailers and related watercraft for McAtee Marine, located at 401 Industrial Blvd.

The commission also will consider the initial study and mitigated negative declaration for the city of Lakeport water and wastewater projects and public review period comments, and make a recommendation to the Lakeport City Council.

Also on the agenda will be consideration of an amendment to the Lakeport Planning Commission Resolution 73 and Lakeport Planning Commission By-Laws concerning commission dates and times.

In other business, the commission will elect new officers.

The commission also will discuss and tentatively set the next meeting date for Wednesday, Sept. 19, or Wednesday, Sept. 26.
