CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Fruit of Her Hands will host a full-service mother-daughter Christmas tea complete with scones, sandwiches, jams and Devonshire cream on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.


Along with the tea, they will have a make and take project and the girls will do a fashion show for the mothers.


Please RSVP for food and make and take project purposes. The cost of the event is $35 per couple.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Arts Council's painted wine bottles fundraiser has been a great success, and bottles are still available.


Local artists painted the bottles as a unique way to raise funds for the council.


The council said the remaining bottles are now on clearance, priced from $5 and up.


A good selection is still left of the bottles, which the arts council said make great gifts.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson’s office is warning local seniors of phone scams targeting them.


The congressman's office has received reports of such telephone scams, in which scammers are reported to be impersonating federal agency officials.


If you have received a call from someone inquiring about personal or financial information, please report it to law enforcement.


Never give personal information or financial information to anyone, Thompson's office said.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Tax Collector is reminding property owners that the first installment of property taxes for the 2011-12 fiscal year are due on Monday, Dec. 12.


Checks or money orders can be mailed to, or dropped off at, the Lake County Tax Collector's Office, 255 N. Forbes St., Room 215, Lakeport, CA 95453.


Along with the checks, please include the payment coupon from the bottom of your bill with your payment.


If you do not have a coupon please write your parcel number on your check and/or include

a note that identifies your payment.


Payments also can be made online at http://tax.co.lake.ca.us or by phone by calling 866-506-8035.


For those online and phone payments there is a convenience fee of $3 for an e-check or 2.5 percent for credit/debit.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – LakeCo Move to Amend is made up of local citizens who are working to raise awareness and grow support for the national effort to adopt an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would reverse the Supreme Court's unpopular “Citizens United v F.E.C.” decision. The decision allows unlimited corporate money to fund U.S. political campaigns.


The cities of Los Angeles, CA and Albany, NY are the latest to pass resolutions that support an amendment.


LakeCo Move to Amend will meet Thursday, Dec. 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 6827 Marin St., Nice.


They will view a 20-minute Webinar, sponsored by a consortium of groups, including Public Citizen, People for the American Way, Move to Amend, Common Cause and Free Speech for People.
