NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.


Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.


LAKE COUNTY


Highway 20


– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance near Alpine Park beginning Monday, Sept. 20. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.


Highway 175


– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance from the Dry Creek Bridge to Stewart Street beginning Thursday, Sept. 23. Work hours are 10 p.m. Thursday evening through 9 a.m. Friday morning. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.


MENDOCINO COUNTY


Highway 1


– PG&E of Eureka has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for tree trimming from 1.0 mile north of Stoneboard Road to Elk through Tuesday, Sept. 21. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.


– California Department of Parks and Recreation has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for sewer line repairs 0.3 mile south of Larkin Road. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.


– Replacement of signal heads from the junction of Routes 1/20 to Manzanita Street will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Republic ITS of Novato.


– Culvert repairs 0.8 mile south of Little Valley Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Kapel Construction of Willow Creek.


– Bridge deck repairs at the Union Landing Viaduct will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Peterson-Chase General Engineering Construction Inc. of Irvine.


Highway 101


– Storm damage repair from 1.5 mile north of the Mendocino/Sonoma County line to 0.5 mile north of the Pieta Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – North Bay Construction of Petaluma.


– A metal guardrail repair project at various locations from the El Roble Overcrossing to 0.4 mile south of the Haehl Overhead bridge will continue. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Wahlund Construction of Eureka.


– A pavement repair project from the Robinson Creek Overcrossing to Gobbi Street will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel 24 hours per day from 8 p.m. Sunday through 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Ramps will be intermittently closed at the Route 101/253 Interchange (Exit 546). A detour will be provided. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.


– Pavement repairs from Steel Lane to 0.6 mile south of Rattlesnake Summit will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. In four-lane sections traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. In two-lane sections one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer-Fraser Company of Eureka.


Highway 162


– Storm damage repair east of Sand Bank Creek will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.


Highway 222


– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.


Highway 253


– A bridge widening project at Anderson Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.


– A bridge widening project at Soda Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.


– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for pole replacement 3.8 miles west of Butler Ranch on Monday, Sept. 20, and Tuesday, Sept. 21. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – Joey Luiz, a candidate for Clearlake City Council and a former vice chair of the Stonewall Democratic Club, will be a featured speaker at the next Stonewall Democratic Club meeting on Sept. 27.


The new meeting place is the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church at 12487 The Plaza, Clearlake Oaks, across from the plaza on back of the Red & White Market on Highway 20.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23.


The meeting will begin at 12:15 p.m. in Room C on the third floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.


Chair Valerie LaBonte will report to the group about a juvenile justice conference she attended in Burlingame on Sept. 16.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Spirit of the Season will hold its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23.


The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Catholic Charities, 21257 Calistoga St. (Highway 29 between the library and the car wash).


At this first meeting they will assign tasks to coordinate the various projects needed to feed more than 500 people at Christmas and give gifts to children.


Those interested in helping are encouraged to attend.


Spirit of the Season is our grassroots holiday program serving Middletown, Cobb and Hidden Valley by assisting those who are in need at Christmas and providing a Christmas dinner and gifts for children who otherwise would not have such.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The next HazMobile event will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, and Saturday, Sept. 18, at Kelseyville Lumber, 3555 N. Main St. in Kelseyville.


Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events may be canceled due to rain.


Households can bring up to 15 gallons of toxic items free of charge. A charge will be made for amounts above 15 gallons.


Items that are accepted include paint, solvents, fuels, five-gallon propane tanks, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, dry cell batteries, fluorescent light tubes (up to 60 feet free) and other toxins that cannot be put in the trash.


Excluded items that cannot be accepted are televisions, computer monitors, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials or infectious wastes.

Free recycled paint is available at Lake County Waste Solution Transfer Station at 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport on first-come, first-served basis in five-gallon containers of tan, brown, gray and pink.


Used oil can be recycled year round at a number of sites in the county.


The HazMobile program is subsidized by the Lake County Public Services Department Solid Waste Division.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Volunteer Firefighters Association is holding its inaugural dinner, dance and auction on Saturday, Oct. 16.


The event will be held at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.


Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host bar. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.


The auction will start after dinner with a special guest auctioneer.


The evening entertainment will be provided by the Lake County Diamonds.


Proceeds will go to benefit the Matt Black Scholarship Fund and donations made to the community.
