Lake County Computer Users meet Oct. 2

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – The Lake County Computer Users will meet on Saturday, Oct. 2.


The meeting will take place at the Live Oak Senior Center, 12502 Foothill Blvd., Clearlake Oaks.


Doors open at 9 a.m. with coffee available.


John Eells will present “Fun with spreadsheets – learn how to do cool things.”


Jim Erdahl will introduce the new streamlined Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 and Vista. He'll also conduct a basic question and answer session, so bring your questions for him.


Judy Grindle will demonstrate privacy and sharing on Facebook.


Nominations for club offices will be accepted, as elections will be held at the November meeting.

Democratic Central Committee to meet Oct. 7

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 7.


The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Clearlake Oaks Community United Methodist Church, 2487 The Plaza,


Herb Gura, current member and candidate for reelection to the Konocti Unified School District Board of Trustees, will be the guest speaker.


Agenda items will include a report on registrations at the Lake County Fair; details of the group's participation in the second annual AIDSWalk; plans for the opening of the United Democratic Campaign Headquarters at 1210 S. Main St. in Lakeport; the annual legislators' barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Highlands Senior Center in Clearlake; and details of the day of action house parties held for the re-election of Sen. Barbara Boxer.


All Democrats are encouraged to join the Barbara Boxer committee and can obtain information membership forms by calling the numbers below.


Also on the agenda will be reports from representatives for Congressman Mike Thompson, Assemblyman Wes Chesbro and Sen. Patricia Wiggins, details on the committee's participation in the campaigns of endorsed candidates Doug Rhoades for Lake County district attorney and Francisco Rivero for Lake County sheriff, and ongoing voter registration at local farmers' markets.


Committee Chair Becky Curry encourages all registered Democrats to come to the meeting and get involved with the many activities sponsored by the group.


Meetings are open to the public and committee membership is open to all registered Democrats.


The Lake County Democratic Central Committee is the official governing body of the Democratic Party in Lake County.

Anderson to sign books at Sept. 30 event

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Catfish Books in Lakeport will host a book signing for Don Anderson, author of “408 Lakeport” on Thursday, Sept. 30.


The book signing will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1013 11th St.


Anderson is a practicing attorney in Lakeport and former Lake County deputy sheriff who is running for district attorney this November.


His book documents the brutal and senseless killing of Sgt. Richard Helbush and the apprehension of his killers by Anderson and two other law enforcement officers.
