LAKE COUNTY, Calif., — The Lake County Women’s Civic Club has announced the winners of its two $1,200 vocational scholarships.

The winners are Britney Blake and Blake Hill, both graduating seniors at Lower Lake High School.

The club said Britney Blake prepared a very polished application that spoke well of her eye for detail and presentation.

She is applying to numerous colleges that provide these areas of study: cosmetology, esthetics and barbering.

“We hope that she might come and speak to our group about her experience in college,” the club said.

Blake Hill has been a fire cadet with Lake Co Fire Explorer Program for the last three years, preparing himself well for the fire science that he will study at either Butte College or Santa Rosa Junior College.

Club representative Sharon Leckbee was honored to present the two students with their awards.

“It feels so darn good to hand over a little cash to help feed their fire,” the club said in its announcement.
