ABATE chapter meets March 5

KELSEYVILLE – Local 28 Chapter of ABATE (American Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education), comprised of motorcycle enthusiasts in Lake County, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Benjamina's Pizza in Kelseyville.

All riders of motorcycles are invited to join the group for its regular monthly meeting. They have started planning some rides for 2009, single day rides and weekend rides. Some destinations for day rides discussed are to the coast to Pt. Reyes and Fort Bragg, Winters for lunchand Alexander Valley.

On March 15 they will ride to Esparto for the Almond Festival for the day. They also are planning on supporting other ABATE Chapter runs to Vacaville, Fairfield and Davis.

ABATE of California is a legislative organization advocating for the rights of the motorcycling enthusiast and has been very effective in combating legislation that would infringe upon riders' rights. The group usually can share some information to keep all riders alert to pending legislation that can affect rights to customize motorcycles.

Local 28, Lake County Chapter has been responsible for several years in having the cities of Clearlake and Lakeport and the county of Lake issuing resolutions to declare the month of May as “Motorcycle Awareness Month.” This draws attention to the driving public to the increased presence of motorcyclists on the roads and highways during the warm months of the year. Safety education is a primary goal of ABATE and we encourage all riders to take the CHP motorcycle training course, whether you're a new rider or been riding for many years.

Local 28 has begun planning for the 2nd Annual Northern California Regional Rally being held at Kelly's Kamp on July 17 and 18. For more information on our meetings, rides and community activities, contact Local 28 president, Melissa Fulton at 263-1845.
