This event commemorates the lives and racing spirit of father and son Deake Lyndall Sr. and Deake Lyndall Jr.
Both had a long history of racing at the Lakeport Speedway and in Northern California.
Deake Sr. had even raced nationally and held a track record in British Columbia (Canada) from 1971 to 1985 where he raced with, and beat, names like Parnelli Jones, Tom Sneva and A.J. Foyt.
Deake Jr. had raced in the NASCAR Winston West series and, with the support of his family, communities of Lakeport and Lake County, and even sponsorship from the Lake County Chamber of Commerce and 1,500 businesses, had landed a NASCAR Cup car to race at the Sears Point Raceway.
Tragically, they lost their lives in a plane crash on the way back from a press event in Eureka.
Since then, the Lyndall family has taken up many causes and projects in their name in both the racing community and Lake County.
Everyone here fondly remembers the drivers of the purple No. 3. The Lyndall family has kept their dream alive with the annual July 4 event. The trophy for this event is one of the most coveted, and attracts drivers from all over Northern California.
This year, the Lyndall family put up an extra $1,000 bonus to win the Coors Light Modifieds main event. But, it was made interesting at the halfway point, any of the top five drivers could choose to go to the back, and if they win, would get the bonus as well as the winner’s purse.

David Lyndall was faced with motor problems early in hot laps losing his engine, and fellow competitor Daryl Levier gave up his motor so Lyndall could race the remaining event on honor of his uncle.
With an eight inversion, Danny Bishop’s No. 61 was on the pole with Dustin DeRosier sitting on his outside. At the conclusion of the first lap, DeRosier made his way to the front, where he was followed by Bishop.
DeRosier held a strong lead, followed by Thom Wright, Aaron Hicks, Darrin Knight and Sean Sweeney up to the competition yellow.
At this point, with the big money on the line, is where the boys were separated from the men. Two men stepped up and gave up their spot in the top five for a shot at the bonus, Wright and Sweeney elected to go to the back.
The restart saw Wright and Sweeney in 10th and 11th with 25 laps to go, and it was going to be an interesting show.
It did not take Wright long to start clawing his way back to the front. By lap 30, he was in sixth and making the pass for third going into lap 34, overtaking Ritchie Potts.
At lap 39, Wright passed Hicks for the second spot, and with a little more than 10 laps to go, we saw the best race of the night with Wright all over the back bumper of Knight, looking for the pass to the high side.
A late race caution flew, seeing Steve Olvera spin going into turn one, collecting both Tommy Lyndall and Steve Taylor.
With five laps to go, there was a single file restart, with Knight at the lead followed by Wright and Sweeney, who had worked his way up from seventh. At the conclusion of the race, Knight took the win, followed by Wright, Hicks and DeRosier, with Sweeney pulling up seventh.
Wright qualified the fastest of the full field of Coors Lights Modifieds with a time of 12.576, followed by Knight with 12.580; Hicks, 12.705; Taylor, 12.734; Sweeney, 12.751; and Noel McCormack qualified with a 12.806, rounding out the top six.
Sweeney won the dash and Chuck Pruett his heat race, McCormack took the second heat race.
Kevin Barba broke Sean Keown's streak. Barba qualified the fastest in the NCRA Mini Stocks, with a time of 13.844, followed by Keown with 13.861; Jay Strugnel, 14.056; Anthony Esberg, 14.813; and Thomas Esberg with a 14.864 rounding out the field.
Strugnel won both the dash and the heat race; Barba won the main followed by Keown, Strugnel, Anthony Esberg and Thomas Esberg.
Jeremy Hopkins qualified the fastest with a time of 12.050, followed by with Forrest Kuecker, 12.169, and Dallas Shane,12.382.
Kuecker won the dash; Noel McCormack won the feature. Kuecker led the first 20 laps, and made McCormack work hard to take the lead, on the last lap he gave it his all, spinning his car into the infield giving up second to Hopkins.
Kyle Tellstrom set a new track record, qualifying as the fastest in the Nor-Cal Pro 4 Modifieds with a time of 12.726, followed by Jake Tillman with 12.797; Codi Barba, 12.540; Kevin Barba, 12.997; and Gregg Van Cleaver rounded out the top five.
Eight Nor-Cal Pro 4 Modifieds started the 30 lap feature event with Johnny Barker's No. 14 on the pole with Curt Lewis in No. 14 on his outside. Tellstrom took over the lead on lap seven and never looked back, making this his third win in the Nor-Cal Pro 4 Modifieds at Lakeport Speedway. For the Junior Jammers, Jackson Long took the lead for the feature event and put a few car lengths between him and hard charger Caity Miller.
Long led the next seven laps, putting some space between him and Miller until a caution came out for the No. 88 truck of Jimmy Foley. The field was grouped together putting Miller on his outside for the restart.
Miller was not able to complete the pass on Long, only taking the lead by a bumper at the line. Two more cautions for the No. 3 of Deake Lyndall gave the edge to Miller, who took the lead on lap 11 and never looked back.
Following Miller was Long, Alisha Herron, newcomer Joshua Vasquez, Nolan Forsythe and Hayley Bishop. Miller also won her dash and heat race making it a total sweep.
Pro Jammers started behind all the Junior Jammers in the feature event, but it did not take them long to get to the front by lap five. Mike Peterson took the lead over from Eddie Klein who finished second, followed by Ellis Thornton, Foley and Lyndall. Peterson also won the dash and Thornton won the heat race.
Charlie Collins qualified the fastest in the Snake Pit Development Bombers with a time of 14.081, followed by Travis Thorn, 14.200; Jodi Snider, 14.211; Mike Neilson, 14.216; Roman Rose, 14.398; and Dylan Rose with a 14.419 rounding out the top six.
Rose won the dash and Anthony McCoy wins his heat race, and Gary Collins won the fast heat race.
Nineteen Snake Pit Development Bombers qualified for the feature event. Caity Miller’s No. 84 did double duty and Scott Griffin’s No. 9x led the field to the green flag.
Miller got a big jump on Griffin, making a hole for Evan Smith who took to lead on the first lap and led until the first of three cautions came out on lap seven for Neilson No. 14 who lost a wheel on the back stretch.
The second caution was on lap 16 for Dylan Rose and four laps later on lap 20 for Snider. The next 20 laps were all green flag laps with a lot of side by side racing, Roman Rose took the checker over, Charlie Collins, Gary Collins, Ron Duke Jr., and Griffin.
