UPPER LAKE – On Tuesday night the Upper Lake High Lady Cougars defeated the Lady T-Wolves of Fort Bragg in four games, 15-25, 25-11, 25-20, and 25-23.

The Lady Cougars started out slow, and neither side played a really clean game all night, with a lot of errors.

"It was a win, but it wasn't pretty,” said Upper Lake Coach Sandy Coatney.

For Upper Lake, some of the stars for the night were Hannah Johnson, Rebecca Grupe, Cierra Peel and Samantha Bullard, Coatney reported.

Johnson, a junior, probably had the best all around night with 10 kills, 20 serves and 5 aces (unreturned serves).

Grupe and Peel also had 10 kills, and Bullard, the setter, had 15 assists and did a good job of spreading the ball around.

"For us, this was a bit of a let-down after our performance in the tournament this weekend; communication was down and errors were up,” said Coatney. “We need to find re-discover our intensity if we want to beat Lower Lake on Thursday."

The Junior Varsity, which also played, lost in two (two out of three for a match), 20-25 and 23-25.

"Too many errors, too many mistakes," said JV Coach Darren Brown, the JV Coach. "They had an off night, but I'm sure they'll have 'it' back by Thursday."

Come cheer on the home team tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27 at Upper Lake High School. Admission is $5.

Junior Varsity play starts at 5 p.m., with the Varsity at 6 p.m.
