The tournament will be held on Friday, June 24, at the Ukiah Municipal Golf Course.
Dan Drew came from Lodi to Mendocino College in 1977 as the head baseball coach.
He made a huge impact on his players during those first nine seasons.
One of Coach Drew’s former players commented that “he was the only reason I made it all the way through college. He changed my life.”
From 1977 to 1979, Drew pulled double duty by also working as an assistant football coach. In the mid 1980s he decided to leave baseball behind and took over the football program.
Drew continued his coaching career for the next nine seasons as the head football coach. He was respected and admired by his players and his peers in the profession and was responsible for turning many young boys into educated men.
He also served as the Mendocino College athletic director for five years.
“You cannot go to a meeting in the state without hearing about how great Dan Drew was for Mendocino College. It is for this reason that we want to honor Dan with this golf tournament,” commented current Athletic Director Tom Gang.
Drew passed away in the fall of 2005 after losing a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
The tournament will feature a noon shotgun start with registration from 11 a.m. until noon.
The cost will be $100, or $50 for Ukiah Course Members with cart privileges.
All proceeds will benefit the Mendocino College Athletic Department.
