UKIAH – The Mendocino College football program had 11 student-athletes selected to the Bay Valley All-Conference Team.

The Eagles (8-2), who won the Bay Valley Conference and went undefeated in conference play, also received coach of the year and offense and defense player of the year honors.

Sophomore Jermaine Jacobs (Sacramento) had 34.5 total tackles and seven sacks and was selected as the conference defensive player of the year.

Freshman Jake Laudenslayer (Modesto), who accounted for 1,648 yards 18 touchdowns while playing both quarterback and receiver, was selected as the conference offensive player of the year.

Mendocino Head Coach Tom Gang was selected as the Bay Valley Coach of the year. Mendocino was Bay Valley Conference Co-Champions in 2005.

Along with the selection of Jacobs, Mendocino had four defensive players selected to the all-conference team.

Sophomore Gary Miller (Ukiah) and sophomore Markins Anilus (Miami) were selected as linebackers. Miller had 58.5 total tackles and four sacks, while Anilus had 36 tackles and 8.5 sacks.

Sophomore Mike Casper (Sacramento) is the lone defensive back selection. Casper had 35 total tackles and two interceptions.

On offense, the Eagles had seven players earn all conference honors, along with Laudenslayers selection.

Sophomore offensive linemen Mike Padilla (Santa Rosa) and Arlen Roberts (Vallejo) anchor the offensive line selections. Mendocino rushed for over 1,600 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Sophomore quarterback Cody Manguso (Reno, NV) threw for 1,878 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Mendocino had two receivers selected. Sophomores Kyle O’Donnell (Windsor) and Steven Joachim (Miami) both repeat as all-conference selections, as they were also selected as freshman last season.

O’Donnell had 52 receptions for 700 yards and seven touchdowns, while Joachim had 41 receptions for 506 and eight touchdowns.

Freshman runningback Kevin Young (Windsor) rushed for 867 yards and 12 touchdowns.

“It is a tremendous honor to have the most players selected to the Bay Valley All-Conference team. This is a reflection of the work and time that has been put in by our staff and our players over the past year,” Gang said.

Mendocino will play Cabrillo College (6-4) in the Capital Shrine Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 24. Kick-off is set for noon at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento.
