REDWOOD VALLEY, Calif. – Terrace Middle School wrestlers brought home more hardware last weekend with 10 medals, including five first place medals, one second and four thirds.
The wrestlers took part in the Eagle Peak Invitational tournament in Redwood Valley at the Eagle Peak Middle School on Saturday, March 23.
First place gold medalists were Sergio Rodriguez, Jacob Pyorre, Jake Jackson, Sam Long, and Aireon Banuet.
Isaac Lewis took home a second place silver medal, while Caleb Blyleven, Josiah Ruiz, Nathan Phillips and Anthony Stutsman each took third place bronze medals.
Cameron Turner also wrestled tough for the Vikings, but ended his day early, due to injury.
Sergio Rodriguez, down in points, battled his way back in the third period with sheer determination to overcome his opponent, win the match and go on to take first place.
Jacob Pyorre put the pressure to his opponents, not allowing any to escape, in his tactical battles throughout the day.
Jake Jackson, with his speed and power, had some excellent takedowns to outmaneuver his competition.
Sam Long was on a mission and powered through the day pinning each of his opponents in the first round.
Aireon Banuet, with fire in his eyes, overcame some tough competitors, which included a powerful double leg takedown to win an overtime match.
“We are very proud with how well all of our wrestlers performed, they have made excellent progress,” said Vikings coaching staff members.
