The public is invited to comment on the 2010 applications the Bureau of Land Management has submitted to the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR).
The public review and comment period will run from Tuesday, March 2, through Monday, April 1, 2010.
The OHV grant applications are an annual process that is a key part of the partnership between BLM and the state of California, which issues grants to a variety of entities to improve or mitigate off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation.
Under this process, BLM applies for grants from the state each year to help fund and coordinate its OHV program.
This year, over $27 million is available for allocation to federal, state and county agencies.
View the applications online at OHMVR's Web site at http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/. Copies are also available at BLM's field offices in Alturas, Arcata, Bakersfield, Barstow, Bishop, Cedarville, El Centro, Folsom, Needles, Palm Springs, Redding, Ridgecrest, Susanville and Ukiah, as well as the BLM Desert District Office in Moreno Valley and the state office in Sacramento.
Information is also available on BLM's website at http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/recreation/ohv.html .
The draft 2010 BLM applications encompass more than 50 projects, ranging from law enforcement, facility developments, trails projects, restoration work and other OHV related projects proposed throughout BLM’s 16 field offices in the state.
Jim Keeler, BLM OHV coordinator, said the BLM is also reaching out to the public through public meetings, personal contacts and through BLM-California's electronic newsletter, Newsbytes.

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST – The State of California Department of Parks and Recreation and the Mendocino National Forest have maintained a successful partnership for over 25 years.
This partnership has provided funding assistance for the management of off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation on National Forest system lands through the California State OHV Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program.
Current regulations mandated by the State of California require annual public participation in this fund allocation process.
The purpose of this notice is to share information and to solicit public input specific to the Mendocino National Forest’s 2010 grant application proposals for Grants and Cooperative Agreements with the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division.
The agreements support OHV management activities, with categories including Ground Operations (trail maintenance and facility operation and maintenance), Restoration and Law Enforcement.
“The Mendocino National Forest offers over 241 miles of designated OHV trails providing exciting riding opportunities for a wide range of ability levels and vehicle types. In addition, over 1,300 miles of Forest roads are available for use by Off-Highway Vehicle enthusiasts,” said Tricia Christofferson, Mendocino National Forest recreation officer.
“We appreciate your comments on our 2010 grant requests that will be submitted to the state of California,” Christofferson said. “Your comments will help the state determine the level of funding to provide the Mendocino National Forest for trail maintenance, facility maintenance, law enforcement, and restoration projects.”
Preliminary applications will be available for review via a link on the state of California Web site at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov .
Comments may be provided between March 2 and April 5.
Instructions for providing comments will be provided on the state of California Web site.
