UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church's worship team has planned a busy month for its congregation.

Activities in October include Laity Sunday on Oct. 17.

Laity Sunday is a day designated for the lay members to lead the worship service.

This year's theme is about what it means to support the church with your presence. The congregation will find Pastor Jan Brim and Lay Leader Gary Lewis in the pews while other members of the laity take part in putting together the worship service and develop the message for the day.

This year's message will be delivered by John Tomkins, with Chris Brim acting as liturgist. Bible readers will be Nicabec Casido and Nicolle Rivera. Children's ministry will be by Amy Davis and ushers/greeters will be Rey and Christian Rivera.

We are each in the ministry of discipleship. This is what Christ has called us to do.

Other events in October will be the Bringing in the Sheaves/Harvest Ceremony on Oct. 24 and All Saints Sunday on Oct. 31. More details will be forthcoming regarding these services.

Our services stress the importance of praise in worship and allow the Spirit of God to operate in a atmosphere of Spiritual freedom. Our services are a means of awakening the mind, warming the heart and stirring the conscience.

Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church is located at 676 Clover Valley Road, corner of First Street and Clover Valley Road.

Worship service starts at 11 a.m. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month. Adult bible study is held on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Please join us at any of our worship services or Bible studies. You would be our honored guest. Our motto is “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.”

We hope to see you soon.

Darla Lewis is chair of the Upper Lake Community United Methodist Church's Outreach, Worship and Education Team.
