Middletown Methodist announces March films

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Middletown Community United Methodist Church has announced the schedule for its Second Saturday and Third Saturday Cinema events in March.

On March 12 the church will host a premiere showing of “The Power of Community” and an encore showing of “A Family Undertaking” on March 19.

Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the film begins at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The first film on March 12 chronicles the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people when they lost access to oil and food after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990s.

Depicted is the country’s successful transition from an industrialized agricultural system to a food base of local organic and urban gardens, and is an example of options and hope. Transition Lake County representatives will be available after the film.

The second film on March 19 is an encore showing of the history and options for honoring a family member or friend after life has ended.

“Americans are educated and concerned about many stages of life and health but avoid the experience we shall undergo, death,” said Pastor Voris Brumfield. “This film is very comforting and removes the fear many have about the end of life. Seeing it can offer a new perspective on life and death.”

Discussion after the film will include local requirements and support options.

These films are free and shown at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church, 15843 Armstrong St., in Middletown.
