Group founder Ginny Craven reports that Operation Tango Mike generally receives troops' names through word of mouth and friends and family members, and welcomes new requests to expand its recipient list.
The effort is meant to boost morale and let troops serving far from home that their sacrifices aren't forgotten, according to Craven.
Packages are sent out throughout the year, with packing parties held on a regular basis.
Craven said the group has been blessed by the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers.
“Fundraising is always a challenge, but somehow, it always works when we need it most,” she said in an e-mail message to group supporters over the weekend. “We will continue to do whatever it takes to support our troops via Operation Tango Mike.”
