LAKEPORT – On Tuesday representatives of the San Francisco-based Ella Baker Center for Human Rights hand-delivered a letter asking for a Lake County Grand Jury investigation of racial misconduct by the Clearlake Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff and the county District Attorney in the case of Renato Hughes Jr.

LAKE COUNTY – The 109th Congress adjourned Dec. 9 before voting to renew a piece of legislation that funds schools and roads in rural communities throughout the United States.

That inaction has some proponents of the law concerned that it may not be renewed at all, and jeopardize hundreds of millions in dollars in funding.

Three new bills which took effect in California Jan. 1 tighten the law on city and county redevelopment agencies. These will potentially impact any redevelopment activities the City of Lakeport undertakes, especially as it seeks to add the use of eminent domain to its redevelopment plan language.

UKIAH - The Mendocino College Board of Trustees has set meeting dates for 2007. Meetings will be held at the Ukiah campus Board Room, room 1060, 1000 Hensley Creek Road, with the exception of the June and August meetings.

LAKEPORT – Concerns about managing the cultivation of medical marijuana within the city limits have resulted in an ordinance that will be before the City Council at its 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - There's a new speaker in the House and a big agenda ahead for the 110th Congress, which means a busy year ahead for Congressman Mike Thompson.
