LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department is seeking information about a male subject who allegedly assaulted a woman in the city's downtown on Thursday evening.
Chief Brad Rasmussen said officers were dispatched to Museum Park at 7 p.m. Thursday to investigate the report of an assault and battery.
The officers contacted the 22-year-old female victim from Clearlake and discovered she was bleeding, with knife cuts across the palms of her hands, Rasmussen said. Firefighters from the Lakeport Fire District responded to treat the victim.
Rasmussen said the woman told police that at approximately 6:40 p.m. she was walking from a Lakeport residence to the public bus stop at Third and N. Main streets, along with her two young sons, ages 1 and 4.
While walking east on Fifth Street, between N. Forbes and N. Main streets, Rasmussen said the woman passed by two male subjects who were smoking in a dark area behind a business.
The woman stated that after she passed by the subjects, she noticed that one of them began following her and then grabbed her by the back of the hair, Rasmussen said.
She pulled an approximately 4-inch knife from her purse in order to defend herself. However, Rasmussen said she told police that the male suspect grabbed her wrist and turned the knife toward her.
A struggle ensued and both of the woman's palms were cut as she tried to maintain control of the knife and prevent herself from being stabbed. Rasmussen said the woman was able to maintain control of the knife and the suspect fled the scene in a westbound direction on Fifth Street.
Rasmussen said the knife was recovered by Lakeport Police.
Lakeport Police officers were unable to locate a suspect in the area but did find the location where the woman said the incident took place. Rasmussen said a detective responded and recovered possible items of evidence.
The Lake County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Division and Criminal Investigations Division also responded to assist in this investigation, Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen said Lakeport Police Officer Joe Eastham responded, met with the woman and, based on information she provided, completed a composite sketch of the suspect, which can be seen above.
Additionally, Rasmussen said the woman described the male subject who attacked her as being approximately 6 feet tall and slender, with dirty blond curly and bushy/wavy hair, wearing a dark red beanie cap, a dark-colored sweatshirt or jacket, and red and black gloves.
The second male subject is described as being slightly taller than the first, with dark hair and wearing dark clothing, Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen said police are seeking the public's assistance in the case and asking that anyone who may have information contact them as soon as possible.
In particular, they wish to speak to anyone who may have been in the general area of the incident and saw any subjects in the area, Rasmussen said.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – On Wednesday the Lakeport Police Department arrested a Sonoma County man wanted for a warrant and vehicle theft, and recovered the car he allegedly had taken.
Christian Alejandro Estrella, 19, of Santa Rosa was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, according to Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen.
At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday the Lakeport Police Department was contacted by the Santa Rosa Police Department, which requested that they attempt to locate Estrella, Rasmussen said.
He said Santa Rosa Police officials believed Estrella may have been in possession of a 2002 blue BMW 325I stolen from the city of Novato.
Acting on information provided by the Santa Rosa Police Department, Lakeport Police officers located the stolen BMW parked in a fenced and gated driveway in the 100 block of S. Polk Street in Lakeport, Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen said officers approached the residence to investigate and located a male subject – identified as Estrella – walking out the front door.
Police arrested Estrella on a felony no bail warrant charging him with violation of probation, domestic violence, dissuading a victim or witness, carrying a loaded firearm in public and vehicle theft, Rasmussen said.
In addition, Rasmussen said Estrella was charged with violating a court order to prevent domestic violence due to the fact that the 19-year-old Santa Rosa woman protected in the order was located in the residence where Estrella was arrested.
The BMW was recovered and stored pending return to the victim in Novato, Rasmussen said.
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department is investigating a Wednesday afternoon incident in which a man who allegedly forced his way into a home was shot by one of the residents.
Sgt. Rodd Joseph said officers responded to the report of the shooting in the 4600 block of W. 40th Street shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The man who called police, identified as Christopher Charles, said he had just shot an intruder in his home, Joseph said.
When officers arrived at the residence, Charles was found on scene and was cooperative with investigators. Joseph said Charles lives in the residence with his elderly mother.
The alleged intruder, whose name is being withheld due to medical reasons, already had fled the scene on foot by the time police arrived, Joseph said.
Within a few minutes, officers located the male suspect in the 14600 block of Uhl Avenue. Joseph said the man had a gunshot wound to his upper torso that was not life-threatening.
During interviews with police, the alleged intruder made inconsistent statements, Joseph said. Investigators also learned that the man and Charles are familiar with each other and have had prior contact.
Joseph said the male suspect was transported by ambulance to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake for medical treatment, and he additionally was placed on a mental health evaluation.
Investigators believe that suspect forced his way into Charles' residence and that Charles shot the alleged intruder in self-defense, Joseph said.
The firearm used in the incident was seized by investigators, and Joseph said Charles was released on scene, pending the outcome of the investigation. The suspect in the case has not yet been charged.
