Clearlake Police seek man who assaulted woman, attempted to abduct child in park
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department is seeking the man responsible for assaulting a woman in a city park and grabbing her young child, who later was found in a park restroom.
Sgt. Rodd Joseph said the incident happened Saturday evening in Austin Park, located at 14077 Lakeshore Drive.
Just before 9:30 p.m. Clearlake Police Department officers responded to a residence in Lower Lake on the report of a kidnapping which had occurred sometime between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m., Joseph said.
During the investigation, Joseph said officers learned that an adult woman was at Austin Park with her 3-year-old son. They were seated at a table located near the restrooms on the gazebo side of the park. It was dusk but still during daylight hours.
A white male adult approached the woman and engaged in conversation about her child. Joseph said the man was described as being in his 30s, standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build. He had a dark mustache, a possible beard and long dark hair – which may have been a wig – and a deep voice.
Joseph said the male subject asked to hold the woman’s child, but the woman refused.
The male subject then pushed the woman back and she fell to the ground, striking her head. Joseph said the male subject then picked the child up and ran into the women’s restroom.
As the woman was trying to get up off the ground, the man was seen leaving the women’s restroom and fleeing on foot, Joseph said.
Joseph said the woman went into the women’s restroom, where she discovered her uninjured yet traumatized child sitting in a puddle of urine in a stall.
The woman picked up her child and returned home with him, subsequently calling police. Joseph said officers were able to collect physical evidence from the child.
Officers conducted an extensive search of Austin Park and surrounding areas but were unable to locate the male subject, Joseph said.
Joseph said the man was last seen wearing a beanie-type watch cap, a white sweat shirt, blue jeans and unknown colored Nike shoes.
The case has been turned over to the Clearlake Police Investigations Unit, Joseph said.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Det. Elvis Cook at 707-994-8251, Extension 315.
As a result of the incident, Joseph said Clearlake Police officers will be conducting extra patrols in and around all Clearlake city parks.
Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit serves search warrant, makes three arrests
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A search warrant service has resulted in the arrest of three men, and the seizure of hundreds of pounds of marijuana and nearly 400 marijuana plants.
Lt. Corey Paulich of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said that on Thursday narcotics detectives executed a search warrant in the 2300 block of Ogulin Canyon Road in Clearlake at a site known as La Rosa Plaza.
The individuals arrested were 26-year-old Dagoberto Vargas Olea and 31-year-old Marvin Vera Alvarado, both of Clearlake, and 50-year-old Gilberto Fulgencio Olea-Lopez of Ukiah, Paulich said.
Detectives initiated the warrant service in the plaza at a residence with fortified doors and windows, Paulich said.
He said a male subject armed with a loaded shotgun was located inside the residence, guarding approximately 200 pounds of processed marijuana being prepared for distribution. The interior of the residence had been converted into a cultivation and processing site.
Detectives then secured a large two-story commercial building within the plaza, where they discovered a sophisticated indoor marijuana growing operation commonly referred to as an “ebb and flow hydroponics system,” according to Paulich.
Paulich said the detectives determined marijuana plants were growing in various stages of maturity throughout the building to generate continuous productivity. They seized approximately 112 pounds of processed marijuana from the commercial building.
The investigation led detectives to find two more marijuana grow sites on the unimproved vacant lands of the plaza, Paulich reported.
Detectives contacted a male subject armed with a loaded rifle and pistol guarding the grows and accompanied by a vicious pit bull canine. Paulich said the detectives determined marijuana plants were being grown both outdoor and within a light deprivation green house on the vacant lands.

During the investigation a third subject arrived at the plaza transporting potted marijuana plants to the scene, Paulich said.
In total, approximately 312 pounds of processed marijuana, 393 marijuana plants and three loaded firearms were seized during the investigation, according to Paulich's report.
Paulich said personnel from the Lake County Fire Protection Department, Clearlake Code Enforcement and Lake County Animal Care and Control assisted the sheriff’s office with this investigation.
Paulich said the three men were transported to the Lake County Jail. Vargas Olea and Vera Alvarado were both booked for cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales and committing a felony while armed with a firearm. Olea-Lopez was booked for cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sales.
So far this year, the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit has eradicated approximately 65,000 marijuana plants and will continue its efforts to eradicate narcotics from the communities of Lake County and seize the suspected profits of drug trafficking for asset forfeiture whenever possible, Paulich said.
Anyone with information that can assist the Sheriff's Narcotic Unit with this effort is encouraged to call the anonymous tip line at 707-263-3663.

Police make five arrests for Clearlake marijuana grows
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Clearlake Police officers have arrested five suspects believed to be involved in the commercial cultivation of marijuana and seized more than 3,000 marijuana plants.
Lt. Tim Celli said that the arrests resulted as a result of serving three search warrants earlier this week.
At 8 a.m. Monday teams of Clearlake Police officers served three search warrants in the 4700 block of Yarrington Court, Celli said.
At the first location, Celli said officers seized 2,375 marijuana plants from the outdoor grow site along with some indoor growing marijuana.
Several rooms inside the residence were set up for indoor growing, however, most of the marijuana plants were from a large outdoor grow. Celli said the entire front yard and surrounding side yard of the location was used as a grow site.
Replica firearms were discovered at this site, however, there were no actual firearms located, he said.
Celli said a suspect identified as Vicente Sanchez Montalvo, 21, was located inside the residence.
At the next location, officers seized 115 marijuana plants from a hoop house structure located in the property, Celli said.
Carlos Cabata Zazueta, 42, was located inside the residence. A realistic pellet rifle was observed in this property, however, no actual firearms were seized from this location, according to Celli.
At the third location, officers located Erik Felix, 20, and Manuel Felix, 32, Celli said.
Also located at this property were three hoop houses containing 588 marijuana plants. Celli said the hoop houses were set up for a light deprivation type growing operation used to accelerate the growth of the marijuana.
The marijuana plants located in these hoop houses were large some approximately 4 to 5 feet in height and were close to being at harvest stage with large marijuana buds, Celli said.
Celli said Erick Felix ultimately admitted that this grow site was his and that he came from Los Angeles to grow the marijuana approximately two months earlier.
According to Celli, the most concerning statement made by Eric Felix was that he claimed to have a .45 caliber firearm inside the residence. He described the firearm and the location it would be found, claiming that the weapon was registered to his girlfriend in Los Angeles.
Officers located the box for the firearm and a magazine to the firearm where Felix said it would be, however, no firearm was located. Felix could not explain what happened to the firearm, Celli said.
All five suspects were later transported and booked into the Lake County Jail for cultivation of marijuana, Celli said.
Celli said commercial marijuana growing in the city of Clearlake will not be tolerated. Suspects who choose to involve themselves in this illegal activity, subject themselves to arrest, prosecution and civil liability for environmental crimes.
The Clearlake Police Department will continue to actively investigate commercial marijuana growing operations in the city of Clearlake, Celli said.
