How to resolve AdBlock issue? Lakeport Police officers arrest man for series of vandalisms, burglaries
LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department on Monday arrested a local man on suspicion of having been responsible for a series of damaging vandalisms and burglaries to a business and the city's library.
Angel De Jesus CoronaTelles, 24, of Lakeport was arrested on felony charges of burglary and vandalism, and misdemeanor charges of possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools, according to Police Chief Brad Rasmussen.
Rasmussen said his agency has been investigating a series of felony vandalism and burglary cases.
They included glass door smashes at the Lakeport Library and Pet Country store on Feb. 27; a broken window at the Lakeport Library on March 6; a smashed glass door at Pet Country on March 9; a glass door smash at the Lakeport Library on March 11; and a smashed glass door, building burglary and theft of property at the Lakeport Library and a glass door damaged during a burglary attempt at Pet Country store, both on March 14, according to Rasmussen.
Rasmussen said total damage and loss from all of those cases totals approximately $3,270.
At 2:15 p.m. Monday, Lakeport Police Sgt. Gary Basor – assisted by Officer Tyler Trouette and a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy – made an investigative stop on CoronaTelles, who Rasmussen said matched the description of a suspect in a newspaper machine break-in that police also have been investigating during the same time period as the other incidents.
CoronaTelles was in possession of burglary tools at the time of the stop and detained for further investigation, which Rasmussen said led police to a residence in the 1500 block of N. Main Street where CoronaTelles recently has been living.
There, police recovered further information and evidence linking CoronaTelles to the crimes at the library and Pet Country, Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen said CoronaTelles was further questioned at the police station and made confessions to the newspaper machine break-in as well as incidents at the library and Pet Country.
CoronaTelles was arrested and booked into the Lake County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $15,000, with CoronaTelles remaining in custody early Tuesday, according to jail records.
“This arrest was made due to diligent police work and I thank and commend all of our officers for their ongoing work on these cases over the past month,” Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen said his agency's investigation into these crimes is continuing. Police are working to determine if any other persons were involved or if CoronaTelles is involved in other crimes.

Sheriff's office seeks man who attempted to kidnap child in Middletown
MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The quick actions on Monday of a 12-year-old girl foiled a stranger's attempt to kidnap her, and the Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking for the community's help in finding the man who tried to abduct the girl.
The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m., according to Lt. Steve Brooks.
The girl was waiting for her mother on the steps of the Middletown Methodist Church on Armstrong Street, Brooks said.
While she was waiting, an elderly male drove up in a black late model Toyota pickup. Brooks said the male got out of his pickup, opened the tailgate and then asked the juvenile if she needed a ride.
When the juvenile told him that she did not need a ride, the male sat down on the stairs next to her. The male subject then grabbed the victim’s wrist and pulled her to her feet, according to Brooks.
Brooks said the girl immediately kicked the male in his shin, which caused him to let go of her wrist. The male then got into his pickup and left the area.
The male subject is described as an elderly white male, who is short with a stocky build, and also is bald with no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and black cowboy type boots, Brooks said.
The vehicle is described as being a black late model Toyota pickup. Brooks said the girl was unable to provide any additional identifying information or a direction of travel.

Sheriff's office seeks help in identifying stolen property
LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying what is believed to be stolen property in order to return it to its rightful owners.
On Wednesday, deputies responded to a rash of reported thefts in the Kelseyville area, according to Lt. Steve Brooks.
Around 3:15 p.m., with a citizen’s help, deputies located a vehicle parked at Pioneer Park containing stolen property, Brooks said.
Brooks said some of the property was identified as stolen and later returned to its rightful owners.
It's yet to be determined if some of the other property contained within the vehicle was stolen, Brooks said.

Escrow closes on new Lakeport Police headquarters
LAKEPORT, Calif. – The city of Lakeport has a new police station.
Escrow for the city's new police headquarters building, located at 2025 S. Main St., closed on March 10, according to Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen.
The city reached an agreement late last year to purchase the building from Santa Rosa resident Jean Howe for $875,000, as Lake County News has reported.
Built in 2002, the 4,396-square-foot building – located on just over half an acre next to Kmart – is nearly 1,400 square feet larger than the police department's home since 1999, located at 916 N. Forbes St.
City officials said that, once the N. Forbes Street building is vacated by the police department, they will consider others uses for that building, including the possibility of renting it out for office space.
The new headquarters building has had only one previous occupant, the Social Security Administration.
Rasmussen said the city is now preparing to hire a local project manager to oversee the work of making some modifications to the building to suit the department.
The work will include adding some interior walls, handling the changeover of phone and computer network, and the addition of a fence behind the building to secure police vehicles, according to Rasmussen.
On April 8, the Lakeport Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the city's acquisition of the property and the station's relocation.
The hearing will be for the commission to consider approving a general plan consistency report, general plan amendment from major retail to public and civic uses, zone change from major retail C-2 zoning to public and civic uses zoning, and a negative declaration for the overall project based on an environmental review.
The proposed negative declaration is available for review at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St., and at www.cityoflakeport.com .
Rasmussen said that the goal is for the Lakeport Police Department to be in its new home by July 1.

REGIONAL: Man who made threats, brandished gun dies fleeing from Sonoma County Sheriff's deputy
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – A man who had brandished a gun at patrons at a bar and restaurant in Sonoma County and threatened to kill them died in a crash while attempting to flee from a sheriff's deputy.
The man, who as of Monday night had not yet been identified, was killed on Highway 1 just north of Bodega Highway, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
At 6:30 p.m. Monday, dispatchers received a 911 call of a subject in the Washoe House bar/restaurant in Petaluma with a handgun, the agency said.
It was reported that the subject was brandishing the gun and made statements that he was going to kill people. At times, authorities said the man made incoherent statements that people could not understand.
The subject left the bar in a vehicle as sheriff’s deputies were responding to the scene, according to the report.
The sheriff's office said a deputy responding to the scene located the man's vehicle on Walker Road near Pepper Road.
Authorities said the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the subject and he pulled over to the side of the road and opened the driver’s door. As the deputy exited his vehicle the subject then accelerated away in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
The fleeing man traveled on several rural roads at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Sheriff's officials said the pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes, ending when the man crashed his vehicle into a tree on Highway 1 just north of Bodega Highway.
The vehicle immediately burst into flames. The deputy attempted to get to the man but was unable to do so due to the fire and the severe damage of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's report.
The fire department and an ambulance were immediately requested to the scene, where the man died, officials said.
The California Highway Patrol took over the investigation per the Sonoma County protocol, officials said.
