Meth and marijuana found in vehicle used by Clearlake man to flee police
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A Clearlake man faces charges for leading police on a pursuit and having both methamphetamine and marijuana in his car.
Dylan Thomas Bacon, 36, ditched the car and escaped on foot following the chase, which began on 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to Sgt. Rodd Joseph of the Clearlake Police Department.
Joseph said Officer Travis Parson attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, in the area of Acacia Street and Arrowhead Road.
As Parson attempted to catch the speeding vehicle, the vehicle led him on a short pursuit, ending near the intersections of Sonoma Way and Woodland Drive, Joseph said.
Once the vehicle had stopped, the driver exited and fled on foot, abandoning a female passenger inside the vehicle, according to Joseph.
Joseph said police identified the driver as Bacon.
During a search of the vehicle, more than 26 grams of suspected methamphetamine was located along with almost 9 pounds of processed marijuana, Joseph said.
In addition to the drugs found inside the vehicle, Joseph said a scale and packaging materials also were located.
Joseph said that police believe, based on evidence collected from the vehicle, the drugs were possessed for sales.
The vehicle Bacon had been driving was impounded from the scene, Joseph said.
Joseph said Bacon is a narcotics offender and required to register as such. Bacon also is on searchable felony probation out of Yolo County for narcotics violations and on searchable felony probation for burglary out of Sacramento County.
The case will be submitted to the Lake County District Attorney’s Office for charges, Joseph said.

Man arrested on weapons charges following police standoff
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Police arrested a Clearlake man on weapons charges on Monday afternoon after a brief standoff.
Otis Woodford, 37, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a stolen firearm and obstruction, according to Sgt. Rodd Joseph of the Clearlake Police Department.
Joseph said that shortly before 2 p.m. Monday Clearlake Police Dispatch received a call about a possibly armed person inside a residence in the 3600 block of Olive Street.
The reporting party, who had been in the home but had since fled, claimed the subject had come into the home displaying a firearm and was now holding several other occupants hostage. Joseph said the subject was described as a dark-skinned, heavyset male with the first name of “Otis.”
Officers quickly arrived on scene and established a perimeter around the home and evacuated nearby residences, Joseph said.
At one point, Woodford exited the home, coming into the driveway. Joseph said officers began yelling at Woodford to show his hands and to walk out to awaiting officers.
He said Woodford refused to do so and instead ran back into the home and out of view of the officers on scene.
About a minute or less later, Woodford again exited the home and this time complied with officers' demands, Joseph said.
Woodford was detained in handcuffs pending the investigation. Joseph said Woodford is on felony searchable probation out of Lake County for narcotic-related violations.
Using a public announcement system, officers began calling the remaining persons out of the home, Joseph said.
He said several other adults and children eventually exited the home. All were found to be unharmed and uninjured.
Officers then entered the home to check for other suspects or evidence of a crime. Joseph said that, during a search of the home, a loaded .45-caliber handgun was located on a couch. The gun was later determined to have been stolen out of the city of Lompoc.
Woodford was arrested and later booked into the Lake County Jail. Joseph said the case will be referred to the Lake County District Attorney’s Office for filing.

Clearlake Police Department identifies homicide victims
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department has identified the victims in a March 26 double homicide in the city of Clearlake.
The victims of the homicide have been identified as 54-year-old Clearlake resident Steven Jepsen and 38-year-old Clearlake resident Juan Perez-Rodriguez.
According to a police report, on Friday, March 26, at approximately 8:21 p.m. Clearlake Police officers were dispatched to the 16000 block of 35th Avenue on a report of several shots fired.
Officers arriving on scene located two individuals who had suffered gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was determined to be deceased at the scene and the other was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake where he was pronounced deceased.
Clearlake resident Francisco Leon-Sarmiento, 26, was arrested by Clearlake Police in the incident, the report said.
Leon-Sarmiento had been leaving the scene of the homicide in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. Further investigation determined insufficient evidence to hold him on homicide charges.
Leon-Sarmiento was held on possession of possession of marijuana for sale initially based on the approximately 2 pounds of marijuana he had in his vehicle when arrested.
Search warrants for Leon-Sarmiento's home in Clearlake were served and marijuana grows were located throughout the residence.
Additionally, a loaded firearm was located in the residence. The firearm had no connection to the homicides, according to police.
According to Clearlake Police, it appears the incident began over a dispute concerning a marijuana transaction and a personal debt.

Police: One detained, others sought in Clearlake double homicide
CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Police Department has issued an update regarding the investigation into a Thursday night shooting that resulted in two deaths.
So far, one person of interest has been taken into police custody in connection to the incident, according to Sgt. Nick Bennett.
Bennett said that at approximately 8:21 p.m. Thursday Clearlake Police officers were dispatched to the 16000 block of 35th Avenue on a report of several shots fired.
Officers arriving on scene located two individuals who had suffered gunshot wounds, Bennett said.
One of the victims was determined to be deceased at the scene, Bennett said, and the other was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake where he was pronounced dead.
Bennett said the names of the victims are not being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
Witnesses at the scene provided a description of a vehicle seen leaving the scene of the incident, Bennett said.
At approximately 10:12 p.m., Officer Mike Ray observed a vehicle matching that description on 40th Avenue in Clearlake, according to Bennett.
He said the vehicle was stopped and the driver of the vehicle was detained as a person of interest in the shooting pending further investigation.
Other persons are still outstanding and are being actively sought by law enforcement at this time and are considered to be armed and dangerous, Bennett said.
The only description that Bennett said was available early Friday was that they are Hispanic males.
