LAKEPORT – The Lake County Chamber is pleased to announce the appearance of a very special young lady on stage at the annual Lakeport Memorial Day Parade.
Miss Makenna Rose Enger of Middletown will sing the national anthem to open the summer season for Lakeport and Lake County.
Makenna was born two days before Christmas in 2002 with a birth defect known as spina bifida.
However, Makenna is not defined by her disability. She loves life and brings joy to those who meet her. She enjoys music, singing, horseback riding, and joking and wrestling around with her sister and friends.
Makenna Rose realized a dream through the Make-A-Wish Foundation when she sang the national anthem at the Lakeport Speedway races on May 8.
A vision in a red gown with a beautiful crown that evening, Makenna sang her way into the hearts of everyone in the grandstands that evening.
The Lakeport Speedway has an ongoing fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation all this season on behalf of Makenna Rose.
At 11 a.m. sharp on Saturday, May 29, in front of the Lake County Museum, Makenna Rose will officially announce the beginning of this years’ parade by singing the national anthem.
If you’re not in the parade be sure to be on Main Street in Lakeport and be a part of this fun day. Watch more than 60 parade entries travel from the Fairgrounds to Main Street and north to Clear Lake Avenue.
Judges this year are new Lakeport City Manager Margaret Silveira; Ted Mandrones, marketing director for Piedmont Lumber & Nursery; and Chuck Holder, owner of Holder Ford Mercury.
Once again the warm tones of Paul Reading will announce all the entries. Kim Cipro of Middletown is the official CSHA Judge for all the equestrian entries.
Ribbons will be awarded to all first, second and third place winners for each class, with cash prizes being awarded to the division winners, judges choice, theme and grand sweepstakes.
No parking signs will be in place from First to Fourth streets on Main to allow unobstructed views of the parade entries. Piedmont Lumber & Nursery is supplying the stage for the judge’s stand in front of the Museum and WestAmerica Bank is the major sponsor.
The theme of this years’ parade is “Celebrate America.”
Celebrating America means many things to many people; to some it truly means celebrating our heroes, all those men and women who have served and are serving our country throughout the years in the Armed Forces.
In 2010, they add another hero, Makenna Rose Enger, not quite 8 years old, but a hero all the same.
