LAKEPORT – Lakeport's new Wednesday evening farmers' market will debut this week in Library Park.

The Lakeport markets will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Wednesday through the end of October just like the Saturday morning markets at Steele Wines, according to Cornelia Sieber-Davis of Lake County Farmers' Finest manager.

Sieber-Davis said Lake County Farmers' Finest decided to start this market with the encouragement of the local community, thereby increasing their efforts to improve access to fresh local food for more of our residents and visitors.

“We hope to see a great turn out to show support for our farmers,” she said. “It has been a very difficult spring for them, but with the warmer weather the selection will increase quickly so plan on stopping by every week for the freshest, healthiest food around.”

Last month the Lakeport City Council gave Lake County Farmers' Finest the go ahead for the weekly markets, as Lake County News has reported.

At the suggestion of city Public Works Director Doug Grider, the market's booths will be located on Library Park's grassy perimeter, which will cut down on water use for the booths and help keep vegetables from wilting, he said.

Lake County Farmers' Finest representatives told the council at the May meeting that they hoped eventually to have arts and crafts and music in addition to local produce.
