CLEARLAKE, Calif. – On Thursday morning police were searching for clues about a suspect who they say attempted to rob a Clearlake bank.
The man walked into the Westamerica Bank at 15342 Lakeshore Drive late Thursday morning and passed a note to a teller that demanded money and claimed that he had a weapon, according to Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain.
No funds were taken, McClain said. Before the man could get the money he left the bank.
McClain said the details about the robbery attempt were still developing.
Although the suspect had claimed to have been armed, “I don't believe anybody saw a weapon,” McClain said.
Police responded and began conducting interviews and collecting evidence. McClain said they did a canine search of the field behind the bank.
“We've been out looking, trying to find things for about the last hour,” he said shortly after noon.
McClain said the suspect was described as a black male adult, between 28 and 40 years of age, who was wearing a red hat and shirt.
Investigators were collecting surveillance video and photographs from the bank. McClain said once they had more information they expected to put out a report.
