Bryan Troy Smith, 33, of Hidden Valley Lake was arrested by California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Frederick just after 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a CHP report.
Smith was observed speeding at Highway 29 and Hidden Valley Road and subsequently was stopped, the report explained.
Following Frederick's investigation, Smith was arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence “of an alcoholic beverage and/or drugs,” the report said.
He was booked into the Lake County Jail early Friday morning, with bail set at $5,000. Jail records indicated he posted bail and was released later on Friday.
Smith's arrest came a day after his job as a deputy sheriff ended, according to Sheriff Rod Mitchell.
“He's no longer a member of my department,” Mitchell said, noting that Smith's separation from the department took place Wednesday.
Smith had been arrested June 15 after an on-duty incident in which he allegedly was found to be driving under the influence of prescription drugs, as Lake County News reports.
He had just begun his swing shift that day when he hit a parked vehicle with his patrol car. The sheriff's office asked the CHP to handle the case, with the arrest occurring after officers found Smith showing signs of impairment, the CHP previously reported.
The sheriff's office then put Smith on approved leave, Capt. James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff's Office reported at that time.
Smith had been a correctional officer from 2002 to 2007 before becoming a deputy sheriff, Bauman said previously.
Smith is scheduled to appear in Lake County Superior Court on the charge on Sept. 27, according to his booking sheet.
