LAKEPORT, Calif. – When it meets this week the Lakeport City Council will consider giving a mussel decontamination station back to the county of Lake in order to make it available for use around Lake County.
The council will hold a goal setting workshop beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
The regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
The agenda and staff reports for the meeting can be downloaded at www.cityoflakeport.com/departments/docs.aspx?deptID=88&catID=102 .
Lakeport City Manager Margaret Silveira will ask the council to approve returning the station, given to the city by the county last year, at the request of county Water Resources Director Scott De Leon.
Silveira's report to the council explains that the city took the station and entered into an agreement with Lakeport Camper & Truck to operate it.
She said the county wants to make the cleaning station available to travel around the county so that free
cleaning can be provided by county staff in areas other than just Lakeport.
“The City has not utilized the cleaning station as much as originally anticipated,” she wrote. “Returning it to the County would allow increased use to better safeguard Clear Lake.”
The agreement with Lakeport Camper & Truck requires a two-month notice of termination, which Silveira is asking the council to approve so that the station can be back in county hands by the start of the tourist boating season.
In other council news, during public presentations, acting Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen will introduce new police personnel, including reserve Officer Robert Jordan, and volunteers Janine Lowe and Robert Marks.
During Lakeport Redevelopment Agency business, the council – also sitting as the agency's board – is expected to consider and approve an owner participation agreement with Dr. Mark Buehnerkemper for the facade improvement of his office at 120 S. Main St.
Under council business, council members will consider approving the formation of a utility services workgroup and appoint two council members to participate.
In his report to the council Utilities Director Mark Brannigan said the committee is meant to assist the
city in understanding the community's expectations and developing strategies on how to meet those expectations.
