KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The 2011 Kelseyville Pear Festival poster is a cheery medley of pear shapes in a kaleidoscopic riot of colors that pop on a field of black.
Artist Annette Higday captures the festival’s spirit, pays homage to the pear and its place as a local agricultural icon.
The art has a tactile quality and reflects Higday's distinctive Warhol style.
Although working with art in her elementary classroom, she started working in watercolors after she retired and her passion has grown.
Her first commissioned piece was a watercolor of whimsical cows with quirky personalities.
She experiments with multiple media to expressing creativity; watercolor, acrylics, jewelry making, and glazing pottery made by husband, Robert.
She and Robert enjoy cooking, baking, gardening and traveling together.
When she is not immersed in bright colors, she can be found volunteering for community activities that nourish her artistic essence. Her next venture is into 3D collage on canvas.
Higday puts her “mark” on the art in every aspect of her life, from the walls to the table, and that comes through in the 2011 Kelseyville Pear Festival poster.
The festival is September 24, 2011.
