Supervisor Anthony Farrington read the proclamation, and then presented it to the Bass Bowl Executive Director, Phil Smoley.
The proclamation lists the background information of the Bass Bowl, including:
The importance of high school athletics to local communities, the lack of public funding for high school athletics.
The fact that some local volunteers have developed the Bass Bowl concept to leverage the rivalry game between Clear Lake High School and Kelseyville High School to raise funds for the athletic departments.
That Bass Bowl Week also is the kick-off for Veterans Day Week, and that the Bass Bowl will be honoring our local veterans at its events.
That the 70th anniversary of Lampson Field will be recognized.
Smoley made mention of related events leading up to the Bass Bowl game, including the Miss Bass Bowl Pageant on Oct. 16, the Kiss My Bass fundraiser on Oct. 29, a veterans/Armed Forces event at the fairgrounds on Nov. 5 and a bass tournament on Nov. 6.
“Each event is geared to either fund raise or drive traffic to the other events,” Smoley said.
The rivalry between Lakeport and Kelseyville bubbled up a bit at the supervisor meeting when Farrington asked where the Bass Bowl Trophy is currently located.
“Where it belongs, in Kelseyville,” Kelseyville Supervisor Rob Brown said.
“Not for long,” Lakeport Supervisor Farrington shot back.
The Bass Bowl game will be featuring a Civil War artillery team that will be firing a cannon after every touchdown, and several other "big game" touches.
“If you haven't been to a high school game for a while, you won't want to miss this one. It will be like no high school game you have ever been to,” said Smoley.
The game itself is being sponsored by Konocti Vista Casino, but there are many sponsorship opportunities still available.
