LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County's long harvest season just began and the Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture (LCCWA) reminds residents to be aware of slow-moving farm vehicles/equipment, large truck/trailer haulers and general road congestion.
“Our county is known internationally for our award-winning pears, winegrapes, and walnuts,” said Claudia Street, Lake County Farm Bureau executive director and LCCWA recording secretary. “Those of us involved in agriculture ask for your patience and understanding during this critical, busy time.”
“A kind word here and there to those who work long, hard hours picking, packing or processing our crops would be appreciated,” added LCCWA President Annette Hopkins. “LCCWA wants everyone to have a safe harvest season, so let’s all show our support of this industry that is so vital to our economy and well-being.”
The Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture actively educates their members and the public about matters concerning agriculture at both the County and State levels.
LCCWA awards scholarships to students pursuing agricultural-related education and provides mini-grants to teachers in local schools who are educating their students about agriculture and food.
In addition, LCCWA sponsors AgVenture, an educational program for community leaders who wish to learn more about agriculture in Lake County.
