LAKEPORT, Calif. – Stage Director John Tomlinson announced that the set for the Mendocino College Lake Center and the Lake County Theater Co.'s production of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” has been designed.
The staging for the “Shakespeare at the Lake” production, by set designer Bill Chambard, features various levels of platforms for the performances, which will take place in Lakeport’s Library Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31.
“Bill Chambard's set design is simple and elegant,” said Tomlinson. “When I picture it nestled in between Library Park and the lake, it makes me so excited for our move in date."
“Library Park is an open space into which our director wanted to incorporate beautiful natural scenic elements,” said Chambard. “I created a mixture of platforms varying in size, shape and height to make a pleasing setting for the various scenes.”
The stage will be built in the old auto shop on the Clear Lake High School campus, thanks to the generosity of the Lakeport Unified School District.
Construction will be under the supervision of Kevin Moore, production manager, who has more than 35 years stage construction experience.
Actors will practice on the stage in the auto shop and then it will be moved to the park during the week of the production.
The play performances will be free to those who wish to bring their own blankets or chairs. Reserved seating will be available.
