LAKEPORT, Calif. – This week Lakeport Police's chief will ask city council members to accept a federal policing grant and designate matching funds.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
Last week, Congressman Mike Thompson announced that the Lakeport Police Department has been awarded a Community Oriented Policing – or COPS – grant from the United States Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing, as Lake County News has reported.
Police Chief Brad Rasmussen will ask the council on Tuesday to accept that $125,000 grant, which will be used to fund a business and neighborhood liaison officer position.
Rasmussen's report estimates that the city will need to provide a total of $235,000 – which includes benefits over the grant's three-year period plus a fourth year of salary.
Also on the agenda, Community Development Director Kevin Ingram will ask the council to receive the city's 2016 Speed Zone Study and set a public hearing for the adoption of an ordinance revising speed zones associated with the engineering and traffic study.
In other business on Tuesday, the council will hold a public hearing on proposed updates to the administrative citation appeal hearing process, and consider approving the refunding of certain former redevelopment agency bonds and a proposed resolution of preliminary intention to proceed with the refinancing of outstanding Series 1993 Limited Obligation Improvement Bonds.
Mayor Marc Spillman also will appoint two council members – one voting member, one alternate – to the Abandoned Vehicle Service Authority Commission.
On Tuesday Spillman will present a proclamation designating October 2016 as Domestic
Violence Awareness month to representatives from the Lake Family Resource Center, and the council also will hear a presentation from Lake County Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Melissa Fulton.
On the meeting's consent agenda – items considered noncontroversial and usually accepted as a slate on one vote – are ordinances; minutes of the regular Lakeport City Council meeting on Sept. 20 and the special meeting on Sept. 26; the warrant registers of Sept. 28 and Oct. 13; Application No. 2016-027 with staff recommendations for the Dickens Faire event to be held Nov. 26 on Main Street; Application No. 2016-028 with staff recommendations for the annual Harvest Revelation block party to be held Oct. 31 on Mellor Drive, between 19th and 20th streets; rejection of Claim 2016-004 filed by Paul Sturtridge as recommended by REMIF; approve Amendment No. 1 to City Manager Silveira’s employment contract; and adoption of a resolution approving revisions to the city of Lakeport Personnel Rules.
