LAKEPORT, Calif. – The city of Lakeport is seeking community members interested in serving in a variety of city commission and committee posts.
The city is accepting applications for the following positions.
– Two members for the Lakeport Planning Commission;
– Two members for the Park and Recreation Commission;
– Two members of the Traffic Safety and Advisory Committee;
– and six members of the Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee.
These appointments would be effective as of January 2017.
Lakeport Planning Commission
The Lakeport Planning Commission reviews matters related to planning and development and is the City Council’s advisor on land use planning matters.
It considers such things as the general plan, rezoning, use permits, subdivisions, architectural and design reviews, planning policy matters and interpretations.
The commission currently meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
Commissioners serve four-year terms and receive a nominal meeting stipend. Qualified applicants must be a resident of the city of Lakeport, however, the Lakeport City Council may appoint one member who lives outside of the city limits, but within the Lakeport zip code area.
Park & Recreation Commission
The Park & Recreation Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the city council in matters pertaining to city parks and recreation. It also cooperates with the Lakeport Planning Commission and civic organizations to advance the sound planning of new recreation areas and facilities.
Park & Recreation commissioners recommend, from time to time, policies on city recreation facilities to the Lakeport City Council for consideration and approval.
The commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 3 p.m. The term for membership on this committee is two years. Applicants must be residents of the city of Lakeport.
Traffic Safety and Advisory Committee
The role of the Traffic Safety and Advisory Committee, or TSAC, is to consider and make recommendations to the Lakeport City Council regarding traffic issues, pedestrian facilities, and parking as it relates to traffic safety. Familiarity with traffic safety and/or the California Vehicle Code is desirable, but is not required.
Membership on the TSAC is for a four-year term and is a non-compensated volunteer position. The committee normally meets once every other month, as needed, provided there are traffic issues to be addressed that fall under the purview of the committee.
Committee members must be residents of the city, and are appointed by the city council on the basis of interest and qualifications.
Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee
The role of the Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee, or LEDAC, is to develop ideas and strategies for the promotion of economic development through business retention, recruitment, attraction, and creation.
LEDAC meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. It consists of up to 11 members who either live, work, shop or do business in the city of Lakeport. This includes Lake County residents who live in unincorporated areas of the Lakeport trade area. The term for membership on this committee is two years.
Membership on all of the commissions and committees listed above is voluntary.
