LAKEPORT, Calif. – On Thursday Lake County Public Works crews were able to reopen a portion of Hill Road closed over the winter due to a landslide.
Public Works closed Hill Road between Sutter Lakeside Hospital and Lakeshore Drive on Dec. 13 for the third winter in a row, as Lake County News has reported.
The roadway has been impacted by a landslide that also has destroyed several homes in the Lakeside Heights subdivision that sits above the road.
Earlier this week, Public Works crews began using heavy equipment to clear the slide, which had spread across both lanes of the roadway.
On Thursday, crews reopened a single lane of the road, with the slide still taking up much of the lane against the hillside.
Stop signs have been set up on each end of the slide, with drivers directed to stop and proceed when clear.
On May 2, the Board of Supervisors approved a $209,000 agreement with Quincy Engineering Inc., with the company to design the permanent repairs for the roadway.
