Council plans special meeting to discuss budget, traffic fees

LAKEPORT – The Lakeport City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday to adopt its final 2008-09 budget and discuss traffic mitigation fees.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

At a budget meeting held July 14, the council asked city staff for more information on certain expenditures before adopting a final budget.

It's expected that the council will move to finalize its budget this week, with City Manager Jerry Gillham about to leave for a year-long deployment in Iraq with the Oregon National Guard. Lakeport Police Chief Kevin Burke has been appointed to act as interim city manager in Gillham's absence.

The city budget, as it's proposed so far, doesn't include any layoffs or major losses of city services.

Also on the Tuesday agenda will be a discussion and possible action regarding traffic mitigation fees.

Those fees would provide the city with funds for road projects and upgrades, and would be paid as part of permits on new homes and commercial development.
