MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Commission of the County of Lake, State of California, will hold a public hearing on Major Use Permit application UP 15-16 to allow a large kennel on a twelve acre parcel proposing to establish an animal care facility for a maximum number of twenty elderly cats and fourteen elderly dogs.

The project applicant is Blythe Lucero.

The Planning Commission will consider adoption of a Mitigated Negative Declaration for this project based on Initial Study IS 15-35. 

The project is located at 11767 Candy Lane, Lower Lake, APN 122-032-24.

The proposed mitigated negative declaration will be available for review at the Community Development Department Lake County Courthouse, 255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, California, twenty (20) days before the hearing, and the staff report will be available ten (10) days before the hearing.

The sign is located at 255 Soda Bay Road, Lakeport, and further described as APN 008-019-64. The project applicant is LaMonica Signs.

The Planning Commission will also reconsider the previously adopted mitigated negative declaration for this project based on Initial Study IS 96-08, available October 4, 2016.

The staff report will be available Oct. 17, 2016, at the Community Development Department, Lake County Courthouse, 255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, CA.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The field of candidates for the Clearlake City Council took part in a special forum held Monday evening.

Lake County News hosted the hour-and-a-half-long forum at Clearlake City Hall.

The video of the event is featured above. Due to technical issues early in the program, the candidates' initial introductions are not included.

The candidates featured included, from left to right on the dais, Nick Bennett, Phil Harris, Joey Luiz, Joyce Overton and Bill Shields. Jeremy Mayfield did not appear for the event.

Bennett, a retired police sergeant, and Overton, the executive director of the Highlands Senior Center, are incumbents. Harris is a local businessman, Luiz is a former council member who now works for the State Board of Equalization and Shields is a retiree and frequent attendee of council meetings.

During the forum the candidates discussed their priorities and key issues including business development and how to approach road repairs, the Measure V road tax on the November ballot, the potential for statewide marijuana legalization this fall, the development of the city's airport property, weed abatement on vacant lots and attracting tourism to the city, among other topics.

The candidates also will appear at a forum from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Community College's campus in Clearlake.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and a number of special events are planned throughout the month to bring awareness to the issue.

The Lake Family Resource Center will host the third annual “Power of Purple Walk to End Domestic Violence” on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The walk will begin at 9 a.m., rain or shine, at Lake Family Resource Center's headquarters at 5350 Main St., Kelseyville.

Purple is the color for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It represents the courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence, remembering victims and honoring survivors. It has a long history of being used as a symbol by those seeking justice.

Participants are encouraged to raise awareness of the issue by embracing the color purple. The town of Kelseyville will be decorated in purple while the walk takes place.

The walk is a nontimed and free event, however donations are gratefully accepted. Once the walk is completed, cake and souvenirs will be offered.

“Health Cares about Domestic Violence Day” takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Health care providers and community members are encouraged to wear purple during the event, which aims to reach members of the health care community with education about the critical importance of screening for domestic violence.

Lake Family Resource Center also will kick off the "Dyeing to End Domestic Violence" fundraiser in October.

This will be an eye-catching, month-long awareness event where individuals are encouraged to color their hair purple for domestic violence awareness. Challenge someone to dye their hair purple and make a pledge at a dollar a day for each day their hair goes purple. Collect as many sponsors as possible.

Three domestic violence proclamations also will take place in October.

The community is urged to attend and support the efforts of the agencies assisting victims of domestic violence and to increase their involvement in efforts to prevent further violence.

The Board of Supervisors will present a proclamation at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St. in Lakeport; the Clearlake City Council's proclamation will be given at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive; and Lakeport City Council will offer its own proclamation at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

Lake Family Resource Center officials said it takes a coordinated effort from all corners of the community – individuals, advocates, community groups, law enforcement, faith-based organizations and schools – to combat the scourge of domestic violence with intervention and prevention and declaring that it will not be tolerated in our community.

The organization is determined to focus awareness on the tragedy of domestic violence in the hope of ending it in Lake County, and it encourages the community to help break the silence.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Associated Students of Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College will host a Clearlake City Council candidates' forum on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The forum will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the campus, located at 15880 Dam Road Extension in Clearlake. 

The Associated Students has prepared questions for all six candidates to answer based on issues and concerns from students as well as city residents.

All six candidates have been invited: Nick Bennett, Phil Harris, Joey Luiz, Jeremy Mayfield, Joyce Overton and Bill Shields.

There are three seats open in this year’s election. Questions will range from what motivated them to run for city council to what their ideas are to resolve homelessness in the city of Clearlake.

Come early if you wish to order some delicious Aromas Café tacos before listening about the candidates running in this year’s election. The restaurant will be open at 11:30 a.m. to serve for the event.
