NICE, Calif. – Firefighters were able to quickly contain a small wildland fire that burned in an orchard in Nice on Sunday afternoon.
The fire, located at the corner of Collier Avenue and Highway 20, was first dispatched at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, according to radio reports.
Firefighters arriving on scene encountered a growing column of smoke and some wind, reports from the scene indicated.
Northshore Fire responded, with Cal Fire also sending a full wildland response. However, the fire was reported contained shortly before 3 p.m., with additional resources canceled.
The fire was contained at one acre, with no structures involved, radio reports indicated.
Reports from the scene indicated firefighters would remain on scene for two hours to mop up.
