LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Winery Association will host the third annual “Wines with Altitude” wine tasting event in San Francisco this month.
On Sunday, Aug. 11, more than a dozen Lake County wineries will leave the mountains north of Napa Valley to showcase their wines at the event at Winery SF on Treasure Island.
From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. taste more than 100 high elevation wines from five distinct American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) while enjoying local food, live music, food trucks and boutique olive oils.
“We are excited to bring our finely cultivated and crafted high-elevation wines from the elevated ridges and flanks of the Mayacamas and Vaca mountains to the aficionados and enthusiasts of the Bay Area,” said Cindi Olof, proprietor of Olof Cellars.
Lake County winegrowers produce high quality fruit that reveal an intensity of place – soil, geology, microclimate and focus on sustainability.
More than 170 Lake County growers cultivate vines in an astounding array of soils, resulting in richly intense wines of great varietal typicity and terroir.
Participating winemakers and wineries include Bell Hill, Bullion Creek, Chasewater, Cougars Leap, Glamazon, Gregory Graham, Langtry, Laujor, Noggle, Olof Cellars, Rosa d’Oro, Shannon Ridge, Six Sigma, Sol Rouge, Steele, Thorn Hill, Vigilance, Wildhurst to name but a few will pour nearly 100 wines including varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc that have defined the Mayacamas Mountains as an elite growing region, as well as blends and lesser-known varietals such as Aglianico, Nebbiolo and Roussanne.
