The group is integral to the Lake County Sheriff’s search operations, and also assists on out-of-county rescues.
To save a life would you hike into forbidden wilderness, ascend a mountain peak, crawl into heavy brush or trudge through snow?
Volunteers with the Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team do all that and more in their struggle to provide life-saving services to those in need, according to Sgt. Corey Paulich.
Searches can be as grueling as they are time consuming; however, Paulich said nothing is better than the feeling of reuniting a missing person with their loved ones.
Paulich said sheriff’s volunteers come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common: compassion for their fellow man.
He said volunteers take part in weekly trainings and monthly meetings in order to maintain the required skills as well developing new ones.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office uses Search and Rescue teams that specialize in technical rescue, ground searchers, 4x4s and ATVs, as well as the overhead team.
Paulich said many members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team are cross-trained, able to assist when and where they are needed.
