SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Food and Agriculture is announcing three vacancies on the Fertilizer Research and Education Program’s, or FREP, Technical Advisory Subcommittee, or TASC.
The TASC reviews and recommends research and education proposals for funding and implementation to the department’s Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board.
Funded through a mill assessment on the sale of fertilizing materials, FREP sponsors and facilitates research to improve the agronomic and environmental use of fertilizing materials in agriculture.
The program serves growers, agricultural supply and service professionals, extension personnel, public agencies, consultants, and the public.
Applicants must demonstrate technical, applied, and scientific expertise in the fields of agronomy, soil science, plant physiology, production agriculture, and environmental issues related to fertilizer use.
The term of office for subcommittee members is three years. Members receive no compensation, but are entitled to payment of necessary travel expenses.

Food and Agricultural Code Section 10610 provides for the establishment of a task force to advise the secretary on the control and management of cattle diseases and evaluate the effectiveness of cattle health programs.
The term of office for a member of CHATF is two years.
Members of the committee receive no compensation, but they are entitled to reimbursement for per diem expenses such as: mileage, lodging, meals, and incidental expenses.
The vacancy is for one member representing the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratories.
