CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Soroptimist International of Clear Lake is celebrating 50 years of service to Lake County.
The club was chartered on May 22, 1964, at Seigler Springs Resort.
Since 1995, the club has held its meetings at Howard`s Grotto Restaurant in Clearlake.
Over the years, the club has supported many projects. In 1993, with a donation of $22,000 from the Ottinger Estate and another $2,000 raised from the Park Walk, Soroptimist International of Clear Lake gave the city of Clearlake $24,000 for the “Light Up the Night” project. The lights in Austin Park were turned on for the first time.
Soroptimists' slogan is “Best for Women.” The Clear Lake club has provided mammograms for women without insurance, assistance to safe houses for women and children, monetary awards for student volunteerism and head of household women continuing their education.
Plus, the club has made donations to the senior centers, Dr. Dhanda, Sponsoring Survivorship and to other Lake County organizations.
Currently the club is working with Lower Lake High School's Clothes Closet, supported their Students of Strength Club and held a prom dress event.
The celebration will be held on Friday, May 30, at the Riviera Hills Country Club.
From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be no-host cocktails, with dinner from 7 to 9 p.m.
The cost is $30 per person.
