LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lucerne Alpine Senior Center has begun to host monthly Saturday breakfasts.
Breakfast is now offered every month at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center on the third Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. The next breakfast will be Aug. 19.
On a recent Saturday morning, residents from the Northshore came out to enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared and served by volunteers, staff and board members of the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center.
Everyone who came seemed pleased that the Saturday breakfast was again being offered.
Thanks to a donation by "Hippie Joe" Fernandez of Upper Lake, patrons enjoyed organic eggs, cooked to order by Cheryl Carr, a newly elected board member. The meal was served with the usual compliments of pancakes, home fries, toast, breakfast meat, juice and coffee.
Every weekday, hot lunches are served in the dining room at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center. Routes for the Meals-on-Wheels program deliver lunches as far away as the Blue Lakes.
However, it has been a few years since the senior center has provided a breakfast on Saturday.
With so few options to have breakfast along the Northshore, the senior center board of directors thought this would be a welcome service to the community. The crowd of folks who showed up to eat was proof to the board that it was right.
Great appreciation and gratitude were passed around among all who came to eat and all who volunteered to work that day.
